Here's my introductory post

I ran across this site somehow a while back and I thought I'd join as I have some time to kill.

Hmmm.... I am a leftist, yes. I must admit my enthusiasm for posting here has cooled somewhat after reading the introductory message and perusing the site a bit. To be quite honest the site seems a little clubby and sectarian - I'm all for keeping fascists on a short leash, but when ran across the sniffy little jab at "Stalinists" in the introductory message, I've started to realize I may have stepped into a hornets nest here.

Well it is a little silly for a forum called "che-lives" to be bagging on "Stalinists"; after all what do you think Che was but a hardcore Marxist-Leninist (the proper name for "Stalinist")? There does seem to be a lot of purging going on. Was the site overrun by Nazis in the past, hence causing a bit of a hair trigger? It's been known to happen. How long has the site been around? How do I keep a "blog"? What exactly is the precise function of the "Commie club"?

Anyways, thats enough questions/impressions for now.

Nice poem. I'm a small donkey rather than a food product.

The burrito has been entered. And yes, I made that intentionally implacably dirty.

This board is called Revolutionary Left and Stalinists (or "Marxist-Leninists") are by no means summarily banned. Indeed, some are even members of the CC.

In our experience, however, there is a tendency of "Stalnists" to be belligerant and uncivil. While by no means including all self-described "Marxist-Leninists", these so-called Stalin-kiddies have been a bane on this forum's existance for a long time.

Accordingly, we make it clear from the get go that this is not a "Stalinist" board and Stalinist members should be be shocked to find their views "controversial", to say the least.

Nonsense.

We do not "purge" anyone here. Any banning or restriction is done for specific reasons and, save patently obvious cases, is only done after consultation with the CC.

How long has the site been around?

In its present form, a little under 5 years.

What exactly is the precise function of the "Commie club"?

Commie Club

What is the Commie Club?

The Commie Club is a group of progressive, left-wing Revolutionary Left members who participate in open and free discussion on the administration of this board and all its forums. Together, this group selects Moderators and debates bans and restrictions in a reasonably democratic fashion on a daily basis. The Admins and Mods, based on the debates and discussions, then carry out whatever action is called for and log it for all CC members to see. Please note that the name "Commie Club" is a little ironic joke, and NOT to be taken seriously!

Why is it here?

The simple answer is that this site groups together a large group of Leftists who believe in participatory worker's self-governance. So, while no one expected, or possibly imagined wanting the structure of the site to reflect that, in hindsight it was inevitable that the site would develop this way.

Eventually, this site needed several new Administrators and Moderators to continue to function properly, as Malte couldn't possibly do it all on his own. So, that necessity also contributed to the delegation of powers, and the world-view of members drove us towards the Commie Club as it is today.

We may not have expected it, but it's here now, and that's the way we like it.
