View Full Version : I just voted... - Did I waste my vote?

Well, I just voted in the upcoming elections, I have to have my vote sent in by diplomatic mail.
I was gonna vote for the left-democrat alliance, which is basically a very watered down version of a bunch of old communist parties that gave up on socialism after the fall of the USSR.
This is only to prevent a second term for the Ultra-Rightwing and Center-Rightwing alliance, whichs needless to say sucks royal ass. The only chance at stopping it is voting for the pseudo-leftists :(
Yet, I chose to vote for a party with no chance at all. I voted for the Anarchist party. I know some of the people in it, they asked me to be in it at one time before I left the country, and they're not all great people. There are some real anarchists there, but a lot of them I suspect are just punks...
Still, I wanted to make a stand against the stupid two choice system we have at the moment. I wanted to vote carelessly for Anarchy and bullshit...
Did I do wrong? I guess this is the classic Ralph Nader dilemma... what do you guys think?

Voting in capitalist elections is like trying to get real food in a "fast-food" chain...it can't be done.

I live in Canada and vote for the New Democratic Party. They do make progress towards social change, albeit non-revolutionary social change, and it is worthwhile to vote for leftist parties, in my opinion.

Though I am too young to vote I think it worthwhile to vote for leftist parties, just to keep the power of the right-wing, conservative parties down.

I truly see what you mean redstar. In most cases when a truly leftist candidate is elcted, he probably had to agree to some pretty nasty deals to get there, i.e. Lula.

contemporary democracy is a joke, really
Democracy is suppose to be the government of the people, but the only thing i see is opression. Voting is just a charade.
Im not old enough to vote but when i turn 18 i am going to vote for sure, it gives me the opportunity to vote for the party or individual i like the most, not the mainstream political parties but the real ones.
Voting has to be a duty, we cant just say we dont like the system, we must change it, if voting can do that so be it

I think you should vote. I encourage everyone to vote. Don`t listen to people who tell you to give up on the electoral system, that is not the way!
Dhul Fiqar asks: should I vote for the lesser of two evils or should I vote for the party I like the most?
Just one of those questions I guess. I would say vote for the party which you feel represents you better. Maybe things need to get worse before they can get better and voting for the social democrats merely prolongs the problem. Not to mention that it perverts Democracy. Vote for what you think is right and damn the consequences.

Voting in bourgeois democracy is very much like betting on the Special Olympics.
No matter who wins, they're all retarded.

I agree with El Che.

God you think you have it bad i live in the UK, i have the choise of the Conservatives uhhhhrrrr or tony blair (even worse) or a bunch of no hopers ie the lib dems.
I could vote for the socialists, but thay have even less chance of getting in than the lib dems.

Well, I guess it doesn't even matter in the end, all the parties are so far to the right (or 'center' as some like to call it).
Shitty system, but I guess you're right El Che, I should just stick with the party I'd like to see win. But then again that's the kind of thinking that helped Nader send Dubya to the Whitehouse. But then again Gore wasn't much different.
Argh, damn system, can't wait for revolution ;)

They can't be anarchists if they're participating in bourgeois politics.

on 18may 2003 there were elections in belgium

POLITICS IN EVERY COUNTRY IS ABOUT MONEY.EVERY GOVERNMENT WONTS MORE AND MORE MONEY SO I THINK WHOLE THE WORLD IS CAPPIE AT THE MOMENT

Ah, a very important question from smoer which i can't answer, would somenoe more knwledgeable please oblige?
My dad is a memeber of the lib dems, who are currently the least right-wing and their policies suit my dad who's got a liberal christian kind of mind, my mum votes green cos she thinks they deserve some votes and she doesn't really like anyone else. i don't know what i'll vote when i get there, depends on the situation.

I think you did the right thing Dhul.
And if Nader runs again in 2004 he will have my vote (because none of the socialist parties' candidates are ever on the ballot in my state).

Dont waste time worrying about voting. Focus on getting the word out; making a voice for yourself and helping out the right(right as in good, not as in conservatives, at least not the ones in the US) political candidates. We've got to educate!
