Has anyone here ever heard about this group. I was browsing the current event section of Wikipedia and i stumbled onto this. What are your opinions, your meaning anyone knowing anything or who took the time to read the link, on this "group"? Their obviously not left wing because, "homosexuality is regarded as not meeting the standard of being human" thats somewhere in the middle of the article. What does anyone who read that article think?

Falun Gongists are one of those groups of people that really deserve death, y'know?

The thing that pisses me off most about those mother fuckers is that, hell, my father is black, and my mother is white. You see, these people think that I'm not worthy to go in to their heaven, because I am biethnic. "Holly" my fucking ass.

One of the very few things that the PRC has done right is oppressing these racist homophobic mother fuckers.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the "plight" of fanatical bigots and it's frankly disgusting how much air-time their "suffering" gets.

There are so many valid criticisms of the CCP that can be made. That any time whatsoever is devoted to the "harasment" of the Falun Gong cult is frankly offensive to the actually innocent victims of Chinese state oppression.

Exactly. Any religion that says someone is automatically damned needs to have their holly scriptures burned. At least Jesus preached compassion; these people are just assholes wearing holy symbols.

Interesting you brought this up, I had a run in with "Falun Gong" recently, and admittidly, at the time I had no idea who or what they were. They were marching down the highway near a mall by my work, and had some pretty big banners and were causing quite the ruckus.

So, I stopped by to see what was up, and they gave me a pamphlet. After a while I left and went home, did a little bit of research on them, and was thoroughly disgusted.

I think what sickens me the most though is that they had a pretty large group, the largest demo I've ever seen in my city. :(

I remember hearing about the group back in China during the mid-90's. Then in 1999, I saw a congregation of them in the lawn facing the Capitol in DC.

I don't think that this group is too influential in any way and I doubt the will ever be. I think that Confucianism itself is a larger problem in China than Falun Gong.

Wowsers, i'd known of Falun Gong for quite a long time but never bothered to check out what their beliefs entailed, so i'm quite suprised to say the least. They sound more deluded than your run of the mill belief system, besides their shite about 'homosexuality' and 'bi-racial' people, they believe that illness is caused by bad karma, that through their spiritual system people can gain the ability to move through solid objects, and see with their 'third eye' - complete crackpots. Now i know why this crusty commie was yelling things out during that refugee action last week when the speaker was talking about Falun Gong...

According to Li “this Falun emblem is the miniature of the universe.” The central character is the Chinese "wan", also known as manji. To Western eyes it resembles the swastika used by Nazi Germany (except that it faces right and is rotated 45 degrees).

So the universe is an orange filled with nazis, anarchist ying-yangs and ventilators?

They were the ones who taught me what religion is.

But I do hold the view that this one is particularly bad.

In the east, the swastika is a Buddhist and Hindu holy symbol. The symbol for wan means "all" or "eternity" It's only in the West, that this symbol is identified with Nazism.

Just recently when Bush met with the president of china a member of the Falun Gong got onto a table set up for cameras and started yelling to free the oppresed members in china.

I KNOW!

Shit, I hate it when people think I'm ignorant. I actually started a thread about this years ago in RevLeft, about how the "swastika" used to be a symbol of "peace and love" and all that "good stuff".

In fact, I wasn't going to put the last sentence but then I realized that some moron would have thought that in fact I thought it was exactly the nazi symbol. My post was an attempt of pointing out the ridiculousness of such "emblems" being considered "the miniature of the universe"

Needless to say, I'm never even going to bother to learn about this crap.

Sorry for this little annoying post but I had to make this clear ;)

The have rallies here sometimes in Toronto, usually at Queen's Park (Provincial Parliament building) and they always burn a Soviet and a Chinese flag.

They also have a van with the words CCP = Nazi.

Sometimes they set up in west Chinatown, with a bigscreen T.V. Once it rained on the TV and it broke. I laughed at that!

I find it halarious when I see them because I often wear a Mao pin and they walk away, and even run when they see me..

They also have a crappy media outlet called "Epoch Times" and they distribute the paper around the city, trying to pretend it's not from Falun Gong (but the content of the paper makes it so obvious).

Heh, I first heard of that paper when I was arguing with some shitface on Wikipedia, who insisted that linking to their rave review(well, it was more of a short summary  ) of Jung Chang's "biography" on Mao was fine, while I was wrong to link to the eXile's semi-serious review.

Tomorrow, a group of Falun Gong members and supporters is holding a demonstration and march in my city.

The capitalist press is presenting this as a "plea for religious tolerance," and Chinese protests are being painted as "evil Communist intolerance."

If anyone on the left feels a twinge of sympathy for Falun Gong, they should really look more closely at the Zhuan Falun (Turning the Wheel of Law) and the public pronouncements of Li Hongzhi, its author founder of the bizarre mystical group.

I'm not talking about the wacky blend of Buddhism and Daoism , based on the “Dharma Wheel” which Li says he installs telekinetically in the abdomens of all his followers, where it rotates in alternating directions, throwing off bad karma and gathering qi [vital bodily energy]. Nor am I talking of Li's insistence that he can fly, that fox and weasel spirits take over human souls, that extraterrestrial aliens have invaded Earth and that the French have discovered a two-billion-year-old nuclear reactor which is proof of an ancient civilization that practiced Falun Gong! Nor do I care about his simultaneously preaching that, “the story of Noah’s Ark is true” and “the theory of evolution doesn’t hold at all.” This is, after all the stuff of most religious schemata and can be ignored as simply crazy.

What is truly abhorrent about Falun Gong is its "moral" teaching - vile racism, heinous misogyny and bigoted homophobia. Li denounces interracial marriage as degenerate and has no place in his “heaven” for “a person of mixed blood,” envisioning a segregationist paradise with separate worlds for “white people,” “yellow people,” etc. Also condemned as "evil" are homosexuality and sexual freedom. Lashing out at abortion as “killing," Li also attacks “advocacy for women’s liberation” as a sign of “degeneration.” And he’s not talking just about the contemporary movement for women’s equality. Li wants to go back to the days when “men knew how to treat their wives,” ridiculing the notion that women were oppressed in ancient times, when Chinese women were subjected to the barbaric practice of footbinding and were so degraded that they generally did not even have names.

I disagree with the CCP on many things, but opposition to the mob of pre-medieval wankers known as Falun Gong is not one of them.

I don't think Confucianism is bad at all or a problem to China or to the rest of the world. It is a very humane philosophy that's proto-socialist and has a good moral code.

As for the rest of the posts I am sick and disgusted by calling for the killing and oppression of the Falun Gong. If you dislike Falun Gong theology fine but they should have the freedom of speech, worship, and thought like everyone else.

Falun Gong are fascists, no doubt, but virtually everyone on this and the other Falun Gong thread are pro-PRC apologists who, out of intellectual bigotry, view all products of traditional Asian culture as "fuedal superstition", and support the totalitarianism of the Chinese state. Fuck them. I honestly have more in common with Falun Gong, even though they'd probably hate me for being a faggot.
