Hi all,

While at work the other day I realised how ridiculous the prices people are payig for goods in Irish shops. €1 = £1.47 stg roughly. A little carton of own-brand orange juice was 80c, chocolate bars are up to 70c, bread is €1.65. These are just example from this particular shop, but in general they vary little throughout different stores.

So I thought that maybe it would be a good idea to hold a market - people gcould make and sell products such as bread, cakes, handcrafts etc. People would have a place to sell agricultural goods such as plants, cream, eggs, and so on. This way, people would be able to purchase goods they could only get in capitalist shops, at probably a much cheaper price, the sellers would be able to make a little extra cash, and everyone involved would have an enjoyable day! As well as this, there are lots of young local bands who I'm sure would be more than happy to play a few songs to entertain the visitors to the marketplace, and I know some people who could occupy the younger kids with face paints and stuff.

Basically I want to spread the ideas of leftist economics in my town, as well as making it an enjoyable community event. What I'd like to know is if anyone here has organised or been involved in similar events. If so, can you offer a fellow comrade some tips and advice? :D

well currently im organizing a free market. its bassically an example of mutual aid. the last one, at reclaim the commons went really well. just flyer and tell everyone to bring something they want to give away, wheter it be food or clothes or anything, and it will work well.
