Slanderously, the bourgeois western intelligentsia circles have tried to characterise Communists as being anti-parliamentary, totalitarian, on the political fringes. Though the events in eastern Europe are debateable since Communists held considerable authority in the elected legislatures between 1945-1947 including 38% in Czechoslovakia, Communists have never, never dismantled the bourgeois parliamentary system. Communists have undeniably been the most repressed people in history; they have been persecuted in almost all of Latin America or the Islamic world at one time or another. In many countries including Spain, Portugal, Chile, and Greece, Communists have strived for the implementation of a bourgeois parliamentary system when under the wrath of a militarist dictatorship. When permitted to participate in elections, Communists have performed quite well. The following shows the performance of Communists in legislative elections:
