Northern english music scene

Can anyone enlighten me with their views of the underground rock scene of the fine Norhtern city of York? It's just it was where I was born and i haven't been there for about 4 years. I occasionally get nostalgic and think that is where I should make my name as a musician: not as cut throat as London or Birmingham, Not as shit as Manchester (come on, you can count Manchester bands that don't suck on one hand!)
I plan to go to Uni there in a couple of years, so please enlighten me

As far as i know,Britain is pretty much dead for underground rock and metal.Im going to see Cannibal Corpse in october so hopefully i can meet real metalheads there

I'm guessing you'll be having to make lots of trips to Leeds if you're really passionate about your music...
