I am writing an essay on how the Pirates and Privateers pre the War of 1812 were actually small Egalitarian Socialist societies. Anyone have any sources that could assist me?

Pirates were the first Egalitarian Socialist society. Equality for all the crewmen, election of Captains, Quarter Masters and First Mates. Freedom drom the laws of all nations, so they let women and minorities (such as Africans, since most of the mutinies occured on slave vessels) join the crews as equally as anyone else.
