gettin a bit bored of my current musical selection and wanting a change. i've liked pretty much all the ska i've heard but don't know what decent bands there are out there.

doesn't have to be explicitly political. so long as they aren't reactionary fuckers.

so spill.

What ska have you listened to and liked?

Try:
Skatelites
Specials
Scoflaws
Doreen Shaffer
Banda Bassoti
Hepcat
Dave Hillyard Rock Steady 7
Adjusters
Laurel Aitken
Desmond Dekker
Slacker
Kingpins
English Beat
Dr Calypso
Toasters
Fishbone
Citizen Fish

Some are more traditional some are more ska-punk, and there are plenty others.
These guys have quite a selection:

I would recommend the following modern Ska bands

Operation Ivy
Sublime
Against All Authority
Ska-P
Leftover Crack
Capdown
Choking Victim

And if you can download, these two Ska songs (by untraditional Ska bands) are good
'Red Hot Moon' by Rancid and 'Bob' by NoFX

But basically everything Celtopunk said is brilliant

Keep On Skankin'! :)

Not big into ska but RX Bandits are good like someone else said. My cousin's all about ska. I noticed when going through his IPod he had tons of Sekta Core so there's another.

I am a big Mustard Plug fan. The Slackers are amazing. The Specials have some very good politics and their song called Free Nelson Mandela is old but good. I really like the Pietasters, but their gender politics are pretty fucked. Buck 69 has some good shit. The Toasters are really good too. There are a list of German bands that have some interesting music. A band that occassionally does some good political music, but started a really progressive record label is Bruce Lee Band, and the label is Asian Man records.

Streetlight Manifesto is good, albeit apolitical
The Suicide Machines have some older ska-ish stuff and are quite political.

Also, look for the Ska covers of Hotel California and the Tetris song.

It's all about Big D And The Kids Table! Other than them, Mustard Plug are pretty good.Lately,I've been going back to Less Than Jake, a band I haven't listened to in a long time, but the band that introduced me to "ska". Against All Authority are also worthy of a listen!

These days I'm mostly listening to Anti-Flag and shit like that. The lyrics are actually meaningful unlike other bands and artists. I don't know if they have anything to do with ska but they are political.

Operation Ivy. . .nothing else is needed

Left Over Crack is OK but they're kinda lame. . .they think Sept 11th was a good thing, which is stupid.

Agreed about Leftover Crack. They're on the edge for sure, and I think they say a lot of stuff just to be offensive, but they're cool bastards.

I would only class The Specials first album as ska. The same goes for Madness.
For me the best ska music can be found on the album Laurel Aitken (AKA The Godfather of Ska) did with Potato 5 back in the mid 80s.
