so here is the deal, i am going to be part of a protest in spokane, washignton, USA. Dick Cheney is coming for a fundriser.
What i need advice in is what to bring, i suspect there to be moderate security (its the VP for gods sake) and maybe violence and gassing (hopefully)

Its an American protest post-9/11, therefore there wont be any violence. Mass arrests maybe, although probably not, but no violence. American protesters are big wimps. Cops don't need tear gas to control them, they just need to shout orders and they do what they're told. Sometimes police beat people up because they're bored, but again they pretty much don't resist.

Dark (preferably black) jacket, handkerchief to tie around over the lower part of your face, a dark coloered baseball cap (or other hat with a brim)

Also a bottle of water and possibly something small to eat if it'll be a long day.

If you want to feel really cool, you can soak a bandana in vinegar to counter act tear gas...

...of course then you'll feel dumb that you have a gross smelling bandana on when they're not using any gas...

Some "Molotov" maybe? Easy/fast/cheap to mix, and it is very effective.

Three essentials: water, handkerchief, and backpack (pack it with stuff that couldn't be used against u in a court of law, ie: flyers, food, markers/spray paint, dark glasses...)

Although it probably won't get that serious at all. Like Tragic Clown said, most protests are weak.

What kind of violence? I prefer millwall bricks and stanleys disguised as match boxes. Very casual and discrete. But almost useless against armored coppers. If you expect a large riot, don't bring any weapons. You will find it on the scene, stones, flag poles, construction iron bars et cetera. If you expect a little gruff with the police, don't use violence at all. If the police start fighting and there is no general militans in the demonstration, you better stay cool. If you punch a cop, it does not matter if it's self defence or not, you will get busted and the police will go free. Only beat a cop when you can get away with it. Don't dress up all in black, except if you participate in an organized black block. Dress casual, do not draw attention to yourself. Keep the mask in your pocket (or backpack), also keep a secondary shirt in your pocket. Change if you feel that you will commit a crime, then change back when all is cool. If you expect some fighting, bring armor (thats not illegal), bracers, knee braces et cetera.

That's a good link Matthijs..
I was really thinking about tear gas, it's commonly used in here whenever there was a "protest" (it turns into a riot as soon as the tyres starts burning)...hehehe.

well wish me luck, its in about 9 hours.
with all the security around it might turn into another protest along the lines of what happened in seattle in 1999 with the WTO protests.
thanks for your support, so far me equipment list includes but is not limited to.

- smashed up concrete (for throwing)
- a sharpened carving knife (8-incher)
- gloves (hot tear gas canisters)
- ski-goggles
- rag (for face)
- latex gloves
- rain jacket
- knit cap
- running shoes (converse, what else?)
- Bob Dylans, "masters of war"
- sign w/10 ft long handel (doubles as pike)
- few bucks (phone and bus)
- bottle w/sodium hydroxide (i think that it) (smells foul)
- bottle w/vinegar, water, baking soda, canoala oil mix (anti-tear gas)

Are you fucking insane? If the VP is there and you're caught with that, you'll be jailed as a terror suspect or something.

some paint, paint the vp, or paintball whatever works, good old public humiliation.
Or shoot your friend, and when the cops come to arrest you point at dick and ask why he got to do it.

Where the hell do you think you are? IRAQ?! I mean goddammit man your going to a protest not a war zone. It sounds like you want a fight. I really dont think we are going to get 1999 WTO protest kinds of violence any time soon in N.America. Also, with the whole American citizens as enemy combatants thing, I dont think the cops are your biggest worry, and I really dont think that a bunch of stones or a knife are going to be that effective against armored vehicles. I would look into heavy armament, maybe a tank or two. I hear you can get nukes for cheap on the black market.
