Just curious...

I heard it was anarchist and leftist but very anti-Soviet.

True. It was pretty much about the same as punk is everywhere: Pissing off the authorities and the establishment. (Most punk concerts where actually held in churches, or buildings of the protestant churches BTW!)

Not in a pure political sense, but in a sense of the average every day life the DDR was like a thousand times more bourgeois than any western country, if you know what I mean, and this is probably true for all former countries of "real existing socialism", so it was very easy to provocate for the punks. On that documentary they also quoted some Stasi files about the punk scene and it's members, hilarious, pure satire! Stupid Stasi pricks...

So is that where the anger, the intensity, and anti-PC/anti-authoritarian message in Rammstein's music comes from?

No, Rammstein's message comes right off their asses!

Seriously, I'm not totally sure, but I don't think any Rammstein members has any associations with the former DDR punk scene.
