I without a doubt am sure you are all aware that music has become disgustinlgy capitlist. I mostly refuse to listen to any forms of music except for techno and even at that, I do not own any CDs or buy any music. Nowadays artists have become simple minded and greedy, all they see is peoples money piling higher and higher in their hands. I recently was watching Oprah and Bon Jovi was on. He donated 1 million dollars to the Tsunami relief fund. What disgusted me is that, out of all the millions he has, he gives only 1 million and not only that..he does it on live television to look gud and it was without a doubt a marketing scheme. I am just apalled. I want to knock him to the ground and spit on him. Can i get banned for saying shit like that?

I don't think music is 'evil'. I love music. It helps pass the time in shitty capitalist society!

I usually don't buy CDs either. That gets really expensive really quick. Rather, I download it for free. That's the way to go. And, not all musicians are greedy capitalist pigs. There's some good stuff out there. It's just not 'mainstream'.

Try listening to some revolutionary hip-hop then, Dead Prez & Sun Rise Above, for example. There's plenty of people out there who don't make music that serves capitalism and bourgeois values, check this thread on political hip-hop: http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=47879

No way, man. Punk music is far superior. And there are a shitload of underground punk bands, most of which are easily found on Limewire (if anyone has that).

Huge Listing of Punk Bands, Well Known and Underground Both (http://punkbands.com/bands.php)

Of course, I have listened to some revolutionary hip-hop. Not much. It's not bad. But, hey, whatever suits your fancy.

I buy cd's, I would download more but I'm on super slow dail up. I'm currently lising to Breaking Benjamin, deffernatly not political (maybe center right or left but it's not in there music) and frankly I don't care, it's good music, so I lisen to it.

Punk music is not superior to anything, in actual fact punk is more about attitude than skill, which makes it musically inferior on the whole.

Not that one can say that music genres are better than another genre, it is all about taste. When I was about 16 I used to love punk, but I grew out of it when I discovered other forms of music. Of course I still listen to some punk, but on the whole i have moved on.

Whoa that first comment, there is nothing more wrong. Sorry but music evil? God no. So what if Bon Jovi gave that money as abit of a promo thing but it was 1 million, i couldn't care if the worlds celebs gave money for such causes just for publicity or to get laid but if their giving that money then good on them. Music is one of the few things that people all over the world are exposed to. Sure some artists into making a few bucks. But there is so much out there trying to make a difference. Yes i buy cd's they set me back but i don't complain, i wish i could get it free from the net but i can't. But music is relief, Lets look at Wave aid for instance that is a perfect example of music doing something for this world, that made millions. Music is not evil.

Celebs shouldn have that money in the first place, what kinda commie are you? And no NOT gud on tem if theyre only motivation to help the needy is more fame? I don't agree and for that i DONT buy CD's. In truth though, the only CD's i have bought was System of a Down's last two albums, memzmerize and hypnotize, alot of the songs are random incoherencies but some are quite political and it gives some great listening. They alos get me rly pumped up right before i have to fight somebody.

In case you didn't know, music has existed for centuries. If you don't like current music, move to the "past". Sure, jazz and psychedelia, for example, might not be "cool" anymore, but you don't listen to music because of it's coolness.

In other words, you've been brainwashed by the same "capitlism" (sic) you despise.

I just dont like the way the music industry has become. Why cant you just accept that music, like any other industry is capitalist. I dont really like music all that much first of all. Except for some techno and some rock but what i CANT STAND is people who defend these self proclaimed ' artists' who sing about the worlds problems then go off and spend their capital on 40 cars which will sit in a garage all year and be driven once or twice. Thats what i dislike. That money could go to far better purposes, such aseliminating poverty and sickness in a third world country. If bill gates was to give up every penny he owns than he could most certainly buy food and vaccinations for every sick shild in Africa. Ever think about that? That may be an exageration, im currently unaware of the number of children in Africa in need but what i kno is that 30 000 children die everyday from malnutrition and disease. All the fucking musicians should play cuz the love to play and give a large percentage of their makings to charities, after all they are " passionate for what they do " and ofcourse im sure thats fulfilment enough..right? :o

Yea, im aware that it has existed for centuries, this is exacty why im saying its become corrupt. 200 years ago people werent getting rich off their songs..They were poor peasants with instruments but LOVEd what they did.

Listen: there's more to (")music(") nowadays than Bon Jovi or Britney Spears or whatever. Just because it's not played on MTV it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

If you don't like current music, "go back in time" or investigate about non-mainstrem artists. In the era of file-sharing, it shouldn't be that hard. Sure, many old music is not "political", but it doesn't necessarilly have to, and some old music was rather groundbreaking and had a lot of social importance.

If you do this, then you'll get a better understanding of music and it's history and you might even want to try to "change music" or something like that by yourself.

This is the Music forum. In here, we talk about... DUN DUN DUN! Music. Preferably leftist music, but personally there's not a lot of political music that I actually like. I listen to music because it sounds good.

Well if you live in a capitalist society you have got to expect capitalist music, for example nobody will sign up immortal technique because of his socialist lyrics, rap lables such as def jam realise his talent but refuse to sign him unless he raps about what they want him to. There are a few non-capitalist musicians you just have to look hard to find them.

its just the society we live in, everyone wants the best life and this is thier way of doing it, as long as the musics good its worthwhile buying and listening, not gettin it just cause thier making money from it is stupid the only way your gonna change things is with actions, not *****ing about it,
and really if your not interested in music then why bother posting in the first place about not listening cause of the money
seriously if you wanna do something about it what your doing is stupid stand up and and shout, or sit the fuck down and listen

Of course there is alot of terrible music around, like the stuff that fills the radio schedule daily...this music is typically non political, the lyrics normally refer to going to a club getting with a girl or whatever...(re-affiriming the status quo...) There are so many talented people with different, unique musical ideas but they dont have a chance of reaching an audience to in the current capitalist industry.

There is a load of great music out there though, that's not in anyway related to capitalism. Music is a way of expressing yourself and the way you feel, just because we are anti-capitalist doesn't mean we don't get sad/high/angry/depressed/happy etc.

For me, music is an escape from the shitty outside world we live in and something that I could not live without. Sitting back with headphones on in the sun is something that makes me feel good or wet if its raining!
