Hello Everyone, this is my first post here on RevLeft....i'm only 16 but share strong political views as do all of you...I'm sure you are all MUCH more informed than I am but I hope to reach the higher echelons of knowledge and be able to discuss the more complex matters with you Veteran Commies... I do though have a small problem. For my english class, my teacher insists I write a persuasive essay on Communism but I really dont know where or how to start. Before I continue about this...Ide like to say that the proudest moment of my high school life occured just last month when i found myself preaching infront of my Ethics class about the Pros and Cons of Communism. I wasn't trying to impose it on anyone, but only to inform. The time has come though, for me to work the minds of other students and help them find THEIR political light at the end of the tunnel. Any suggestions of good arguments to use in my essay?
Thank You

Are you sure the students will even get to hear what your wrote? If it's an essay, I'd assume only the teacher would see it.
But if you're sure the students will be enlightened by you, then take this advice to heart: don't confuse them. Communism is for everybody ('cept the capitalists :P), not just intellectuals. What I mean by that is: be careful not to flood them with terms unknown to them such as "proletarian" or "bourgeoisie". You should certainly tell them that the working class are known as the proles and the class of business owners are bourgeoisie, but you should stick to calling them working class people and capitalists.
Also, I wouldn't go straight into "Communism is _____." Instead, start off with thought provoking questions (not all questions end with a question mark.). Get them thinking about how they're treated under capitalism. If you go to a mainly middle/upper-middle class school, it'd be important to point out how the poor and homeless live too.
So after you've filled their heads with the ills of Capitalism, make the suggestion of Communism. Explain how it would cure the Capitalist disease.
But definitely the number one thing is not to confuse them with intellectual ramblings... let them get that after they understand the foundations.
