Each of us takes it in turn to mention a song we really like or one we think everyone should hear at least once then all of us involved download the song and listen to it.
Others give their opinions and the first person with a download and comment gets to pick the next song

EDIT: Please give a reason for choosing the song!!!

I'll start us of with one most of you will have heard...

Bob Dylan - Hurricane

I heard this song when I was about ten, loved it and rediscoverd it about two years ago. Possibly my favourite song of all time, dunno if it's because of happy memories or just because it's such a righteous song - get downloading!

Hopefully some people will participate...

It's a brilliant song

I heard it a long time ago in my mums car, its probably my second favourite Dylan song (after dignity) and its one of my friends all time favourites...

I guess I do a song now

The Kinks - waterloo sunset

It's not my favourite kinks song, the first time I heard it was a cover by the Pretenders and I didn't even know it was a Kinks song... When I got my first Kinks album I noticed this song on it and was most satisfied...

this song totally blew me away when i first heard it (pardon the pun). if there was one song to be played at my funeral then this is surely it.

Whoa, finally a decent thread in this forum.
Those 3 songs are great of course.

I'll suggest "This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us" by Sparks, just for fun.

This thread is awesome. I'm slowly downloading my way through them (because I'm tending to download several/many songs by the artist), so far I've done about half.

I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to RATM for making me realize how many songs I know and fucking love by Bob Dylan

My song is Black Monday by the Lowest of the Low.

Okay this is really good and I'm amazed by the reception to this thread but right now I wanna call a cease to further recommendations - there's too many great songs!

And could everyone go back and give a reason why we should download the song, or why it's special to you. I'm gonna edit this post once I listen to Kevis' recommendation.

Cheers

Back!

The Kinks - waterloo sunset
Now this I like; really chilled-out and spacy. Turns out it's one of my mum's favourite song's as well

Now I pick one again (seems greedy), then whoever comments on the song gets to pick the next one, and so forth - it's not too complicated ;)

The Redskins - Unionize

Well known on this board but I just like it so much I can't resist claiming it. Watch out for the following lyrics

We can talk of riots and petrol bombs
And revolutions all day long
But if we fail to organise
We'll waste our lives on protest songs

:hammer: First back quoting me gets to pick the next song, them's the rules of the game

Aw, man!
I'm reccommending one more song regardless, since I haven't had internet access since Friday and have fallen 'out of the loop'. Feel free to not download it, but it's Small Victories by Ron Hawkins (yeah, I'm lame, and I know it).

Reasons:

Black Monday
Because it's a song about economic insecurity, and it reminds me how hard and sad life can be when you can't really depend on anyone, or anything. Plus, it has some great harmonica parts (which usually guarantees that I'll like a song).

Small Victories
The lyrics:
"Take a morning pee, drop some LSD, and go tripping around China Town"
"Smoke behind the Church, little fascist jerks, remind me of our common cause"
And, "Kill a Nazi punk, and we'll bury him in the back yard"

Also, because Ron Hawkins is a god.

P.S. that's fucking awesome. =D

P.P.S. When my internet stops being an asshole, I'll download the rest of the songs. Until then, I suck hard core.

Dani California by Red Hot Chili Peppers

New single from their album due out later this year. Just seems like the kinda song that fits spring. took me a while to get into it but i love it now. if you liked 'californication' and 'by the way' you'll most likely approve of this.

Amazing how many people fail to comprehend such a basic concept as the meaning of this thread.

A great song. I can't wait for the album to come out. But a great pick!

Neil Young - Keep on rockin in the free world

(Just a great song, a good rock protest song... Young is a master at that :) )

Not too bad, though I am not one of the Young worshippers, he's made some decent music. Keep on rockin' in the free world is part of it.

Next:
Tom Vek- If You Want

It's very apart, minimalistic (a dangerous word to use these days) yet enjoyable.

Tom Vek- If You Want
Hmm...weird

I liked it but it was a close thing, his voice is a tad too much like that of the singer from emo shit-fest Panic At The Disco

Next up:
Mission Of Burma - That's When I Reach For My Revolver

MOB were a chronically underrated 80's indie rock band. This song is anthemic and tuneful and the lead singer's wounded vocals are captivating. Nothing to do with Hermann Goering either...

Apocalypticodramatic by Tryo

This is a great song form a great band, for those of you who speak french. This is the first song i heard from this band. I have many many good memories associated to it including sitting down in a boat while drinking wild mint tea that must have interbred with marijuana or something due to its rather special properties...

or else
Black Betty by Spider Bait

I hadnt heard this spn gin a long time until i downloaded it recently. Its very much like having adrenaline injected into your ears.

Absynthe Minded- My Heroics part one

A band from my hometown that is not afraid to use violins and such in their music, this is one of their first singles and I must say, I stop whatever I'm doing and just listen everytime I hear this song..

Bullet with Butterfly wings- Smashing Pumpkins
It's all in his voice. It's so effective. The whole song is in the harmony. This angry, then almost pitiful tone. Like power and weakness. agression and peaceful. i love it.
