I have a question on communism. If communism brings equality to all, how can there exist things such as sports, the movie, and music buisness. These buisnesses are based on making money right? so if there is no money how can they exist. And if in communism all are equal, wouldnt it be a little unfair if someone was an actor and someone a farmer for example?

I am a little unclear on this and i would like some further explination on how communism can deal with this.

Nothing is going to stop people from making movies, playing music, or playing football with their friends(or competing on a larger scale like the world cup). Most of the time, people do these things because they like to. Granted, a lot of the glamour will be taken out of the professions once the money factor isn't an issue. I think it'll be good for the arts because instead of creating something that 'sells', people will spend more time and creative energy on projects that actually matter to them.

Yea you're right that people will continue to play sports and make music but in communism is it considered a job? is it considered to be contributing to the people? or will musicians or filmmakers have to work in different ways to contribute and make music and films on their free time?

In the case of sports, I have a feeling that it would become less of a career and more of a pastime. As for artists, it's hard to say. Ideally, art would become less of a specialized activity exclusively for the 'professional artists' and instead just a part of people's daily lives and leisure activities.

well the desire for movies will always remain and as such i would expect poeple to be allowed to make movies as a fulltime job.
but if they make bad movies (uwe boll) i doubt they will manage to keep getting co-operation from the public for the really big movies.

You should have posted this in learning, comrade.

As to your question: you're right that under captialism the acitivities you mentioned are run for profit. However, this is not what these things "are about". They are deformed under capitalism by the profit motive. In a communist society, such activities will exist, but they, like everything else, will be used to increase the well of human happiness and expression and not bank balances.

I just realized something, if communism means an over abundance of materials; there will be no more so-bad-its-good terrible monster b-movies for me to laugh at. DAMMIT!

Well um this can be remedied by having the actor work as a farmer for a week, and a farmer work as an actor for a week, and we can film this for a reallity TV show!

In regards to sport, you could look at the GAA in Ireland, the players are amateur and recieve little money, granted some of the big players get ad deals but the vast majority play it for the passion and love and this sport is huge in Ireland. Money isnt always a motive for people taking part in entertainment or art, sure even english soccer was once amateur,it has bein ruined by money. The same can be said about art etc.. they have been robbed by a small section of society,it should be for all,and in a socialist system i hope this is the path Art would take!
