How do you think Europe will look like in the future? If the neoliberals get what they want, how will it look like then? Will the European Union hold? Will it become a superstate?

I think you should take a glance at what's happening in France at this very moment.

Yes I know - but this is a protest against one law. When it is demolished people will go back to their "usual" life, right?

in the coming 20 years i expect some things.

- much broader gap rich-poor
- every persons DNA will be on file and used for identification continentally.
- the european union will have more power over the member nations then the national governments.
- police will have much less restrictions on the usage of violence and will be alowed to search for weapons whenever they feel like it.
- phone tapping will become standard for "poeple suspected of criminal activity"
- everybody will be required to carry ID's with biometric data (not having an ID will be a certain prison sentance)
- you must be insured for everything but the insurance company's will not be forced to inform their "clients" about the things they wont pay out for.
also the legal timelimit for a pay out will be removed.

and i can go on for a long time but this is enough for now

I predict growing unrest and turbulence of all kinds across western Europe in the coming decades...including the emergence of a genuine revolutionary communist movement.

More massive and protracted mass demonstrations, more "battles for the streets", more confusion and chaos "at the top".

And public discourse will become more polarized and considerably more bitter...as people perceive more and more clearly the abyss between ordinary people and their despotic and corrupt rulers.

Communist revolution by 2050...and maybe sooner than that. :D

The best predictions for Europe's future are found in the Skyclad songs Gammadion Seed and Desperanto (A Song for Europe).

But let's not forget America.

Despite what may seem to be an unfavourable situation a perfect storm for social unrest is brewing:

- Aging population
- Repressed immigrant workforce
- Smaller replacement worker generation that is not enough to cover costs
- Spiralling public deficit. If this continues the value of the dollar would fall dramatically if investors lose confidence in the U.S. economy

The Perfect Storm... (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/hardtalk/4857646.stm)

Sorry but it's pathetic to dismiss what's happening in france as a 'protest over one law'. I think that it's more than that. It's people begging to think outside the system and becoming aware that they're under attack. I expect in Europe more turbulence especially as the world enters further recession. This should lead to a turn to the left in the european labour movment.

a turn to the left definitly but the bourgeois democracy is becoming more and more ignored as a real option.
and that is definitly a good thing ! the poeple wont revolutionise if they keep resorting to "democracy"

im looking forward to the dutch elections in 2007 the current highly unpopular government will probably mobilise 80% of the poeple that believe in democracy today.
so the % of poeple that can vote and actually turn up will be the best indication of how "alive" the bourgeois democracy is.
