It was December 1898, just after Spain had been kicked out of the Filipines, accomplished by the alliance of American and Filipino forces. The U.S. promised the people of the Filipines freedom soon after Spain's defeat.
During this time, the war was forced onto the Filipinos by occupying soldiers. Emilio Aguinaldo made great efforts in bringing the people together against the U.S. This was later to be known as the Filipino Insurrection, yet it is now argued to be considered the Filipino-American war.
In the south, the Moro Filipinos would not fall no matter how many times they were shot at. They had no guns, only their homemade weapons, such as fire-hardened sticks. The history of stick fighting is ancient in this region, and it was the same place where Magellan died trying to take control.
Developed in 1911, the only gun to knock them back was the Colt. 45. It allowed the soldier more time for a coup de grace after the first shot. The gun was issued to all soldiers during this time to combat the Filipinos.
It is just interesting to know that this gun had been made specifically for Filipino warriors, as it is rarely mentioned in history books.
