I was talking to people who seem to have a problem with homosexuals, using inappropriate language, and being totaly discriminatory. What can i do to CHANGE their outlook, and their opinion, without them going crazy and committing a hate crime because they are THAT pissed off. Not just make them be nice to gays, but to actually think that the choice of a person in their sexuality is in essence, their choice. Please help, before I just haul off and hit one of them.

Depends on who you are talking to, if you talking to a person who thinks it is naturally wrong, they would be easier to persuade them, than say a person who thinks it's "immoral," and thinks that all of us "gays," will be thrown into the fiery pit, and thinks that we caused Katrina and other such nonsense, they will be the hardest to persuade because religious views are extremely hard to change. Further more you can't make every one see it your/our way, just not possible. But what you can do is offer data, facts, science statistics, because once you have gain a firm scientific standing and can point out facts, quickly then that will greatly help you in debates because to the science inept, anything remotely scientific will create a huge dent into their thinking. I always ask them, without using any religious "examples," prove to me, that I and Homosexuality is wrong, I guarantee you most of the time you will get a blank stare or they will storm off.

If you care about it, just figure out why they have an issue and then deconstruct their position and show why it doesn't make sense.

A major problem with these sort of people is that they are very poor at handling criticism. They've probably found it normal to make fun of gay people ever since primary school, because all the cool kids did it, and they never really changed that, even though they matured emotionally otherwise.

By criticising this, you are basically shaking a pillar of their upbringing, and they often react very aggressively to that. Which is why changing them is so hard. Not that I'm defending them or anything, they do need their heads pulled out of their asses, that much is clear.

Ask them when they cognitively decided they would find females sexually attractive. When they say they never really thought about it, ask them why homosexuals are any different in that aspect.

Tell them this:

Imagine you are living in a homosexual-dominated society. The homosexuals find heterosexuality disgusting and refuse to recognize your sexuality as normal, even if they do "accept" it. Imagine that the state refuses to recognize heterosexuality as legitimate, and that a large part of society will condemn anybody who is openly heterosexual.

Just put them in the position of a homosexual. Imagine how alienating that would feel?

when I meet a homophobic person I "play gay" and freak them out for a bit, and then I revert back to my normal personality. I then tell them that I will pay them $1000 if they can stop being interested their prefered gender. When they say they can't I go on quite a long tirade about how people are people, no matter what their preference or life decisions or genetic make up. I tell them the only good them hating and fearing people is doing is creating a rift in society that will eventaly tear us all apart, very few people will disagree with a need to unite. Generaly if you can make them understand that hate breeds hate and (to quote American History X) "Hate is baggage". Generaly they have their bible thumping responses at which point you tell them they are using a book that is "factual" that constantly contradicts itself and in all probability was written by schizophrenics. Also this is a book that says "thou shalt not commit adultery" but gives the green light on polygamy (just think about that, sanctit of marriage some how = two wives?)
