Reading a book on the russian revolution and came across this uncited passage


engels had warned that a socialist party taking power prematurely might find itself isolated and forced into repressive dictatorship. Clearly the Bolshevik leaders, and Lenin in particular, were willing to take that risk

and i would love it if someone could direct me to the passage by engels that the author is referring to.

I believe he discusses this somewhat in The Principles of Communism.

I recall seeing something like that in his Letters on Historical Materialism - but they are a bit lengthy. Check out Principles of Communism first.
