Okay so there's this new left wing party in the UK called RESPECT...one of their members is the infamous George Galloway.

1) Does anyone have any opinions on this party?
2) Will anybody be voting for them in the MAy elections?
3) Why oh WHY did he have to appear on a reality TV programme...i just can't take him seriously!!!

they're a bit too connected with fundamentalist muslim groups for my liking...

its a one trick party as well, its all about the Iraq war and nothing else...

Yeah those aren't the first grumblings i've heard long those lines...and i guess they echo my sentiments too.

It just seems too good to be true...you know the feeling? It looks so dreamy that it has to be bullshit!!!

Is there any serious party that i can vote for in May??? I became disinterested in Labour when they became "new labour"....

reformist pricks with however some potential, since a large part of the progressive working class is represented there

2) Will anybody be voting for them in the MAy elections?

3) Why oh WHY did he have to appear on a reality TV programme...i just can't take him seriously!!!

They sound like a bunch of hippie reformists with no grip on reality, but I don't vote so I am a bit biased, to say the least.

1. Reformist bags of shite.

2. Not voting. voting for something like RESPECT can only be a protest vote, and it would be more effective not to vote at all (and considerably less effort).

3. Slightly more attention-seeking than the average politician.

1- A reformist popular front made out of anyone who opposes the Iraq war including the highly recationary muslim assosation of britain.

2- Can't vote. They don't stand in scotland anyway.

3- Galloways an egotistical prick. He has always been this way. If he does any good for the left it's mearly a coincidence. He has a tremendous record for discredieting himself. And he's anti-anortion among other questionable views.

He's not anti-abortion, don't lie.

He has a personal opposition to abortion on religious grounds, but he supports a woman's right to choose.

Islamists, Stalinists, and homophobes pretending to be leftists.

I'm still ambivalent on whether or not they're more despicable than New Lieblair.

I've never understood how an otherwise knowledgable and active radical such as yourself could support such a reformist group as RESPECT

Yeh SWP confuses me because as individuals I find myself able to relate to them and think of them as well defined knowledgable individauls generally speaking. However then they come out and support respect? Having said that they have made some good criticisms of the SSP. Good luck facing the assault of the ladership btw ;)

YKTMX

I'm not in the SWP, guys. Sorry.

bolshevik butcher
4th April 2006, 23:43
Sorry mate. You're a supporter. Why don't you join btw?

YKTMX
4th April 2006, 23:44
It's personal.

bolshevik butcher

Fair enough. Do you think the platforms, with swp in paticular are oging to face an assault fom the ssp leadership? It's my personal prediction.

The Grey Blur

CF I think you should support the SSP, instead of whatever entryist group it is your're part of.

And are SWP entryists as well?

YKTMX

Possibly, it hardly interests me.

Rage your a follower of this catastrophic mkess of watered down trotskyism and platforms known as the ssp :o

The Grey Blur
4th April 2006, 23:52
Ah, I wouldn't say a follower, more a...supporter...kinda thing...

The Grey Blur

I[m a critical supporer of sorts. I'm in their youth section.

The Grey Blur

Yeah, I think we're in the same International Socialist Youth

By the way, do Hands Off Venezuala have an Irish branch?

bolshevik butcher
5th April 2006, 00:04
Youre in CWI I think. They have a platofrm within hte SSP. Anyway, I'm usure about Ireland. Here's the link to send them a message, the best you could do would be to ask. http://www.handsoffvenezuela.org/contact_us.htm

The Grey Blur

Cheers, I might just do that. What is the purpose/aim of HOV?

bolshevik butcher
5th April 2006, 16:17
Mainly to stand in solidarity with the enezuelan reovlution. To spread the word of what is happening in Venezuela and Latin America in general and get the word out that there is an alternative to capitalism and its not just a pipedream. It's being embraced by millions of owrkers in Latin America.

Sugar Hill Kevis
5th April 2006, 16:18
the SWP don't actually stand in elections anymore do they?

I thought their electorial front was taken care of by RESPECT

YKTMX
5th April 2006, 16:26
It's not just a "front".

It's an alliance of disparate groups, formed out of the anti-war movement, which connects with people who would otherwise not have representation, on a platform of opposition to war and occupation, privatization and racism.

There aren't 16 thousand Trotskyists in Bethnal Green, comrades.

I doubt that there is a Hands off Venezuela group in Ireland, but a member of the IRSP was over there last year with the group. I don't think he was with the HOV campaign, but there was a member of the Communist Party of Ireland who spent some time in Venezuela last year as well.

Conghaileach

The IRSP member wrote a number of letters while in Venezuela...

First Letter From Venezuela - My Arrival And First Contact With The Alberdi School (http://www.handsoffvenezuela.org/letter_alberdi_school280405.htm)

Second Letter from Venezuela - Don Quixote (http://www.handsoffvenezuela.org/letter_don_quixote280405.htm)

Third Letter From Venezuela - Wolfgang, A Hero From The Barrio (http://www.handsoffvenezuela.org/letter_wolfgang_barreto280405.htm)

Fourth Letter from Venezuela - On Workers' Co-management (http://www.handsoffvenezuela.org/letter_workers_co-management280405.htm)

I would never vote for this party as I believe george galloway appeals to religous militant extremists, he asscoiates with the likes of Sadam Hussein and argues that America is treating him badly etc. Well of course America is going to treat an arab badly, it is full of racist capitalists but the fact George Galloway is not concerned by Husseins slaughter of his own people he continues to defend him. He also did this in UK elections when he appealed to the uneducated classes ( Im not going to say what he stood for as it will sound racist and controversial)

Conghaileach
6th April 2006, 22:37
In what way does Galloway associate with Saddam Hussein?
