general opinion: greedy men/religious fanatics. Brainwashed.
(On the other hand, people really adore some parts of american "culture").
Arrogant and no knowledge about geography. Fat.

About 90% of all people are against the war. their reasons are:
a) the americans only want the oil.
b)the amis are already too mighty

Bush is the most unpopular USpresident all time(here in europe)
Poeple think that he is an unresponsible cowboy, a catastrphe for the world. they fear him(his stupidity) more than Saddam or OBL.

The Brits that I know think Americans are mostly stupid, in fact they think, with a few exceptions, that the only intelligient Americans live outside the US.

I think the US public don't have a chance , they have shit education and then they can't help but believe what they are told, so yeah, most of the are stupid but it's not their fault, although I hate all those bigots in Middle America.

Britain does not like the war very much, although we will back our troops. All of the Brits I come across are anti-Bush, save about 2. But then I come from a very "aware" slice of the population and I can't talk for all Brits.

The general view of Amercians in Britian is they are stupid fat and brainwashed by the system. I do however recognise that those lving in the big cities on the east and west coast are more like normal people.

My view of the Amercian government is extermly bad as i feel it is a completely fucked up system. I mean WTF only 2 parties both with basically the same policies!!

Most Brits dont support the war but because of our amazinally right wing media most thin kthey are a minority and belive the governments claims that most ppl support the war.

Well, i agree that most brits are causios of the US, but not all hate them, though a lot do. However anti-americanism has skyrocketed sinse those blue on blue incidents, especcially the patriot missle downing a british warplane and when an american A-10 spent an hour circling and firing on british challenger II tanks killing 5.

If you are actually a Democrat or a Republican the differences are actually quite large, but American policy is either "Yes, but this" or "Yes, but that".

Ahhh let me quote our politicians.

"Damned Americans! I hate those bastards!" A liberal MP

"George Bush is a moron" Senior Aide to the PM

"We are not with America. Will not be with America. We will only be with the UN" Jean Chretien, PM (basically 'fuck america).

Since Bush came into power he has slapped us in the face multiple times. He has yet to visit ottawa, which is the traditional first visit by the US president, 3 years later and Jean is still waiting. He has put name tags on Muslim Canadians travelling in America, blamed us for 9-11, violated the ever hated NAFTA and ignored the WTO rulings against America in our favour. The day after 4 Canadians died in friendly fire, Americans booed our national anthem at a hockey game. They walked over our flag before the womans finals in the Olympics, and then we kicked there sorry ass. In addition there ambassador has been critical about our forgien and domestic policies, and has made speeches to the commercial elite about it. Another grievance would be how America claims the Grand Banks and has violated Canadian fishery laws that are in place to protect the Cod, and have over fished to the point that the fishery has collasped. The grand banks is in the Gulf of St. Lawenernce. All the land surrounding it is Canadian except two french colonies that have a thin strip of fishing rights. They unsuccessfully invaded us atleast 2 and claimed victory each time, they forget about how it was the Canadians who had to be called back on D-Day for making too much progress, or that in the Iran Hostage Crisis it was the Canadian ambassador that rescued 6 americans. We feel stepped on and are sick. Our nation views lowly of all Americans, because they are unwilling to vote for a better government. Canada hates America but is scared shitless of its military and economic wrath, and are screwed up the ass daily because of it. If we could, and our PM grew enough back bone, very few people (4000 annexionists marched last week compared to 400 000 peacemongers) would be happy for canada to join america, but they are in the minority and would be treated violently if that was part of our national nature.

Canadians hate Americans.

:edit: I forgot to mention that there marines marched into the stadium of one of the world series that toronto won with our flag upside down, and how stupid they are when we watch Talking to Americans on This Hour has 22 Minutes. We also hate their selfcentredness and disrespect for human life and compassion for one another. We do not understand why bush thinks he is the leader of the free world. if america is free then we must be utopia.

We seem America's policies seprated from the "thinking American people" (like Redstar200, for instance). America's imperialistic policies are runned by greedy and almost illeterate real third-world people who have had the brains washed for generations.

As Fidel said, we are not against the American people, we are against imperialism.

When I think of an American, a person of any race could pop into my head. They are xenophobic, power loving, and proud racialists (rather than racists). Their knowledge does not go further than the Television screen, or their wallets.

like the other brits have said people here think americans are generally overweight, arrogant and that bush is just a cowboy in a suite.

a tv presenter charecterised americans as having a 5litre bottle of coke with their burgers and walking around with elasticated jeans.

Generally Australians like Americans although I know many people who think that they are brainwashed idiots.

I would like to know what makes a person American? Is it being born in America or is it holding a particular set of values that are common to those of the government. If it is being born in America then I don’t have a general view, Americans are a mixed group of people so it is hard/stupid to generalise. However I view American government policy and people that follow it as arrogant and inhumane.

What is thier opinion of the u$a invading Iraq?

Support for the war on Iraq is rising in Australia. Before the US invasion most people here were against the war but now it is about half and half. Most people who support the war here do so because they believe that this war will get rid of Saddam and liberate the people of Iraq. They have been brainwashed.

I agree with Larissa’s post…

How I view Americans: Conservative, right-winged, religious, uptight, manipulated, individualistic, egocentric, war-lovong conceited, narrow-minded yet very polite folks. (I live in the most right-wing place on earth)

How Americans view Americans: The greatest, most enlightened, independent-thinking, and above all else, the most free people ever.

How I view Bush: Conservative, right-winged, religious, uptight, manipulated, individualistic, egocentric, conceited, war-loving, narrow-minded, hypocritical man.

How Americans view Bush: The man that's protecting our freedoms by criminalizing my middle-eastern neighboor for having a suspicious ethnicity.

Generally Australians like Americans although I know many people who think that they are brainwashed idiots."Tolerate Americans" would be a better term. Australia has long been a American cultural lapdog and doesn't appear to appreciate it much, nor should it be expected to. It has it's own culture to be proud of, without having to be 'overtaken' by another.

Most of the American sterotypes are true, but most people don't realize our country is more or less 50% for Bush 50% against him.

I know people who watch at least three hours of TV a day though. That's where the brainwashing starts. Some guy called in to NPR and said "We should only play un-biased, pro-american news." That about sums up most Americans.

B.C. right? Can't talk about the provincial election then.

What do you think of Layton and the NDP? They are the furthest left my riding carries.

Eastside Revolt
3rd April 2003, 02:07
To me the NDP is dead. They have swung too far into the mainstream. They are now all careerists like the liberals going further and further to the right. I think the left has to take root with it's radical elements.

It has it's own culture to be proud of, without having to be 'overtaken' by another.

What culture would that be? Detained children? Genocide? You have probably guessed that I am not very patriotic.

But you are right; many Australians “tolerate” Americans. Many others love Americans. It is hard to generalise.
