I suppose from a communist, or even free marketer perspective, the problems of a monopoly explain the problems of capitalism as it exists today.

You see, monopolies can be reasonable, and specialised providers as they benifit from economies of scale. The problem with this is that they use this to their advantage, and when I say "their" I mean the bourgeois operatives. Free marketers want to solve this problem, whilst protecting the right of the rich to manipulate the poor, they advocate this through abolition of a government alone...assuming this to be a cure all for society's ills. Communists on the other hand want to maintain the benifits of economies of scale, allow for individualism in creation to exist, and make sure that everything is not just at market price but actually free to be consumed as is needed.

To understand why and how you would have to have a look into other areas, but this is basically it.

A monopoly of the proletariat...yes, but it doesn't mean "monopoly" as the term exists now. Monopolies whereby a rich elite benifit and the expense and suffering of the poor...no communism does not support this.
