I decided to post this in Politics, due to his execution was not very long ago, and because I feel he has relevance today.
Questions:

What do you think of General Ochoa?

Why do you really think this national hero was executed?

Because this "national hero" was involved in the drug trade. It would have been far, far worse IMO if he had not been punished. At the end of the day the exiles would have screamed about "cuban involvement in drugs" if he had not been killed, so you can't really win with these people.

Jail, being dismissed from the military are forms of punishment that one can use. The gov. did not have to execute him, no?

Money most likely.

And I think it was neccessary to punish him, if not by firing squad then by jail at least. I don't agree with the death penalty in most cases, but Cuba does not use it frequently, and only in exceptional circumstances.
