Hey,
I'm interested in buying a domain to host a website but I not sure where to start.
I want someone that is relatively cheap, doesnt mess up my site with ads and banners and gives a decent amount of space. Dunno if I wanting a .co.uk or .com, probably a uk one.

If you want a free one, brinkster.com is pretty good.

I've used it before, the problem is that the URL is confusing. Usually www40.brinkster.com/yourdomain

The 40 could be any numbers.

They do have good prices on regular domains, if I recall properly.

I suggest you buy your domain name through http://www.godaddy.com/ to purchase your domain name. Their rates are quite cheap.

You can host a website without buying a domain, and vice-versa. If you're looking for a free web host, I'd recommend Dajoob (http://dajoob.com). I use Unix-Shells (http://unix-shells.biz) to host an IRCd I run, and from my experience with them I'd recommend them very much if you're looking for reliable, cheap hosting, although I've only used it for IRCd hosting, not web hosting. I've also used F5 Hosting (http://f5hosting.com) for a couple years, and can tell you that they offer very good web hosting - very, very rarely have I had any problems with them, and their support is excellent. The only problem with them is that their packages start off at $10/month compared to $2.50/month at Unix-Shells.

I wouldn't recommend them. they're the reason fuckauthority.org was down for 3 weeks. innitially, I didn't give them my address, my phone number, my driver's license number, etc etc because I read in their privacy policy that they will turn your information over to the government if they're asked to do so, plus, it wasn't relavent since I was using debit. well, when they found out that i hadn't supplied them with the info, they shut my site down immediately.

Well, you can always go over to redapollo.org and get a free sub-domain and webspace, that is if your site is leftist.
