What is the opinions of this literature genre?

Some good, some bad. Most of it sucks and is apolitical. The stuff that is political isn't very good.

Stuff from even a few decades ago was much better.

I guess that's kind of a real general answer, but your question is prety general. Could you give more details about what you are considering?

im trying to find some good books to read
and a friend of mine likes that genre a lot but i dont know much about it

A lot of contemporary fiction is directed at the lowest common denominator. However, I am sure there is some good stuff out there. Find old classics you enjoyed that have won certain prizes, and then check what new fiction has won the same prize.

Palahniuk seems to be popular these days, if that's the kind of thing you're looking for.

Otherwise try to find smaller and lesser known authors by linking up with writing communities, maybe at your local university and finding small publishers.
