In William Blum's Rogue State there's a Chapter about Chemical and Biological weapons. Well he quotes Dr. Donald M. MacArthur (Deputy Director, Research and Engineering, Department of Defense) who testified before Congress on June 9, 1969, and among other things made this statement:

"Within the next 5-10 years, it would probably be possible to make a new infective microorganism which could differ in certain important aspects from any known disease-causing organisms. Most important of these is that it might be refractory [resistant] to the immunological and therapeutic processes upon which we depend to maintain our relative freedom from infectious disease."

Hearing before a House Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, "Department of Defense Appropriations for 1970"

I think what your trying to imply is a bit far fetched.

He's asking what people think about the theory that the US Gov't created AIDS, and asking for what we think about it.

Scientists have solidly established the origins of HIV; it's as certain as anything in science. It's known for a fact that HIV evolved from Simian Immunodeficiency Virus. Biologists have even traced the different strains of HIV, based on sequencing their RNA. And drawn up a sort of family tree - with multiple transitions from monkey to chimp, and chimp to human.

It's actually used as a textbook example for teaching evolution.

It's also worth keeping in mind that there is no such animal as progressive conspiracism. A conspiracy-based worldview is necessarily based on mainstream assumptions - such as the idea that the system would work fine if not subverted by bad people. The evils of the world are caused by the schemes of these bad people, not by the normal workings of the system.

And conspiracism necessarily feeds into radical right-wing conclusions. It encourages scapegoating, for example.

With our current abilities, I think it's highly unlikely that AIDS was manufactured by anyone with its characteristics as intentional. It would be a lot more plausible that it was an experiment that got really out of hand.

However, the historical record points to AIDS coming from chimpanzees in Central/West Africa.

african natives eating bush meat.

but most of the deadly contagious diseases come from china i heared on national geographic.
china has a very long record of intensive duck breeding along with pigs.
pigs for some reason are able to be infected with both human and avian virusses so mutations mostly take place in pigs.

the spanish influenza is with almost 100% certainty an avian flu but its origin is unknown.

H5N1 is also an avian flu and what i find interesting is how a german cat somehow got infected.
H5N1 itself does not concern me but its ability to jump over yet another species barrier opens up a whole new world of potential new virusses.

AIDS came from imperialism!

As I recall, western imperialists went to Africa and slaughtered a bunch of Simian Monkeys in the forests. Of course, when you kill something you get its blood on you, and when you've been hiking through the woods all day, you probably have a few cuts. Needless to say, the blood of the infected monkeys got into the bloodstreams of the imperialists and voila! HIV was created!

HIV spread through more bloodshed, rape, unprotected sex and to a lesser extent drug use.

It also seems likely that anyone who killed the monkeys for their meat would have been infected as well.

Hope that answered your question.

And no, AIDS isn't any more of a conspiracy than 9/11.
