A Muslim man has been beaten to death in Thailand after attacking a Hindu shrine in the capital, Bangkok.

The man - who was reported to suffer from mental health problems - was set upon after smashing a statue of the Hindu deity Brahma.

Two men, reportedly cleaners at the shrine, have been charged with murder.

Police said that Thanakorn Pakdeepol, 27, broke into the shrine, which houses a four-faced statue of Brahma, early on Tuesday morning.

He used a hammer to destroy the deity, before being attacked by several men.

Hmm, I'm conflicted.

On one hand, mental problems or not, he shouldn't really have broken into the place, smashed up the statue, and not expected at least a good kicking for his troubles.

On the other, the cleaners could probably had sated their God with Just giving the guy a good kicking, religious aspect or not, it's still not very nice to see something you look after smashed up by anyone.

But then of course, this is supposed to show the failings of religious belief with regards to rational behaviour etc etc, correct ?

Shame that they killed him though, just for some statue.
