Why is it that these leaders elected in Latin America are such wimps. They label themselves as socialists, but they support free trade and market because it is the "responsible" thing to do. That is so much bullshit that im disgusted. Why cant theysee the suffering and make some real changes that can lead to a more humane society. They have to suck up to Washington and there hawks just to be "responsible". Responsible to who? The fucking capitalist class? The business sector? It seems that they wanna satisfy the ruling classes while helping the proletariat. Thats bullshit. You help the exploiting class exploit more while saying youre a "socialist" and helping the poor. Thats ironic if you ask me. What can we do and what do we expect in the future?

"Socialist" politicians are really not socialist politicians.

"It‘s painful to submit to our bosses; it‘s even stupider to pick them." - Translated from revolutionary graffiti during Paris, May 1968.

It is true for what is happening in Latin America, how can they free themselfs from bosses if their strategy is to put bosses in charge?

Sorry, but I couldn't help cracking up when I read "Lula, Bachelete, the uruguay guy" :-D anyway, I agree with what others have said, just wanted to add that, lol.

It the same as socialist in France or Italy, when one gets elected no one thinks it's a revolution. They are just left wing capitalist. You can pick between wolves or wolves in sheeps clothing in the capitalist electoral system.

I do not even consider them left-wing capitalist. But if you really want a chuckle, the US media calls the democrats the party on the left. Basically the demos are just repubs with a minor social agenda. And the elected ones of Latin America are playing that same card.

Yep, there's a hypocritical situation evolving in Latin America
"Socialists" that support and promote capitalism, in order not to alienate the bourgeoisie, all at the expense of the poor and oppressed
They've exploited the history of socialism in Latin America in order to get elected

Don't buy into the lie that the capitalist media inundates the world with
The lie that Latin America is moving left
Remember that many leftists are not and do not have the interest of the workers/peasants or of the oppressed aka Democrats
Their sole ambition is to work with the US and deceive the poor into believing that they're fighting for them, thus the poor vote for them

Leaders like Lula, Bachelet, the Uruguay guy: Vasquez, and Evo are reformed capitalists that want to "solve" the problem of poverty and exploitation by promoting mass investment and open market practices

The only way to solve poverty in Latin America is to empower the wokers/peasants and the poor, through revolutionary means
The students, workers, and poor must seize power and destroy or severely alter the state that for so long oppressed and ignored the plight of the poor
A label will not do such a thing <_<

One lost much faith when Portugal's Socialist Party won, also when Spain's Socialist Party won. They didn't do anything, and now they have conservative governments. And it is the same in all other countries. They put up demands, yes, but those demands are supposed to be solved through capitalism? I don't think so...

To be honest I don't even see Chavez doing much more than putting up some rethoric against the US (which on the other hand is good). But then again, I don't know the whole situation...

But I also think people need to realize that going against the US will result in trade barriers and other unpleasant things, like Cuba. Then one must also know that the country in question has to transform into socialism, they can't restrict the media or take control of the army - people need to be convinced. You can't build socialism by forcing people to do so, they must know what they are doing, they must want it by free will.

But I guess we'll see what the future brings in South America...

I have to say that I have a lot of faith in these politicians, I feel that this time something big is going to happen (to favour the proletariat). I don't mind if they are capitalists as long as they re-distribute the wealth that it brings into a country equally among the populace (especially the more marginalised). This time I do have hope. At least these guys are not the pro-fascist governments of the 90s, I do believe that there is a surge of Socialism in the region, it may not be socialism as we know it but it might be something different. I mean come on, there will not be any sudden changes but big things will happen over time, i'm sure of that. Please not that i'm trying not to be skeptical.
