Well I had a little discussion with my dad about Cuba. I have very limited knowledge about its electoral system, I only have a vague idea about it's grassroot democracy-

My father comes from Algeria, and he replied that it was the same thing in Argelia. He said though. that it was very corrupt and the most economically comfortable people were bureaucrats. He also argued that in order to participate in government affairs, you had to have "the same vision" than the bureaucrats-

So here are my questions:

1) Is Cuban democracy modelled after the USSR?
2) Where can I read more about this (Not the Cuban truth project or a book I have to buy)?

Probably not.

This is a good read, and it explains how the electoral system works:

Just want to add that I have a relatively pro-Cuban friend who will nothing but tell how Cuba really is, and they are good at that. He has a Cuban wife and has lived there. He says that candidates that are not in line with the Castro administration are being pressured to leave politics. He says that some changes have been made within the elections, and he gave me some examples. Yet, he told me: "Look, there are a lot of good things with the Cuba, but the electoral system is not one of them. The Cubans I have talked to have routinely said the elections are a scam"
