well, ok, you are free to do so. at least we are honest about our ideas. we have ideas that work and that are not a contradiction. if a nazi is wearing a sweater with che's face on it he is a fucking idiot. che would have taken a gun and shot him. that's all I have to say.

Please try to present a decent argument instead of just flaming, S-G Bang. FascistHunter does bring up points with the Neo-Nazis seeking some sort of greater popularity, and turning to a recognizable revolutionary figure. It would be nice if you could refute that instead of just spewing out mean psycho-babble.

Since nobody else seems to be able to, why not answer my question?
Why are all the refugees from all the Latin American countries bypassing Cuba to get HERE if Cuba's so *****?
Why are all those Latin Americans choosing capitalism over communism?
What do you know that they don't and why aren't you contacting them and letting them in on your secret?

anybody who looks at redrover's question and realizes they can't answer it with a straight face should adandon communism immediately.
and if you feel the question hasn't completely kicked your ass, you might want to seek professional psychiatric help.
clinging to a belief in the face of massive evidence to the contrary could be defined as mental disorder.
think about it.
OCD is an irrationality that defies reason.
belief that KKKuba is a great place to live defies all logic.

In a nutshell....
1. America has a higher GDP, therefore, a "higher standard of living"
2. Not totally true, some Latin American countries are turning to populist Socialism, (i.e Venezuela) The main reason that many countries in general, not just Latin American, are turning to Capitalism, is because of globalization. A country even with just a little welfare/Socialist tendencies cannot really compete with the hardcore liberal economies in the now, global economy (i.e America, Japan). The only way to even survive in the modern global economy with a Socialist country is to pretty much isolate yourself and because self-sufficient. Not the most efficient, but it lets you keep your beliefs and protects the people better than a liberal economy.

Sure it does. If you are a poor, starving refugee, will you go the country where they will hire you, regardless if you are legal or illegal, but simply because you are willing to work for less than the typical worker there? Or will you go to the country where they keep the companies that hire more in check?
Those rich people own the corporations that do the hiring. They want to get richer and pay less to the workers, therefore, they will hire you.
I'm not saying that this is a good thing, but this is what typically happens.

At least you admit socialism is less efficient than capitalism.
There may be some hope after all.
So I guess it was his choice and not the embargo to be "isolated" on principle?
This doesn't fit in too well with the KKKommie doxy that all Castro's problems are due to the U.S. embargo on Cuba.
Castro isn't isolated - he can trade with China, Russia, Europe, Southeast Asia and anyone else he wants.
And please fill me in on how more "protected" the Cubans are under Castro than citizens are in the U.S. Did you hear about the 2 Cuban dentists Sean Hannity had to rescue from Castro and reunite with their families here in the U.S. last week? I guess as a communist, you are not allowed to watch FOX. Note: Castro is famous for jailing doctors when they want to flee, which most of them would like to do.
You see, due to the utter failure of the little Marxist Island Experiment Castro came up with during his privileged bourgois New York Catholic School education, he has to control every aspect of the lives of any doctor who may want to leave, which is many of them. If not, the absolute failure of socialized medicine will no longer be able to be denied by the likes of people on this board and Marxism will be exposed as the laughing stock 90% of people already know it is.
So why was the U.S. the only place people ultimately wanted to migrate to in large numbers before the modern global economy took shape? What were all the circa 1900 migrants through Ellis Island fleeing from in Europe? Gimme your best guess.

The Nazis were revoltionaries. Their ideology was right wing in leftist tongue. This is nothing new. Hitler wanted to the Nazi party to be the Social Revoltionary party. The man was captured in an attempt to oust the government in a Putsch. He was Germany's Che Guevara.
nazi and fascist ideology is a revolutionary ideology similar to its Communist cousin. It wants to combat both Marxian Communism and Classical Liberalism. It is anti-communist, ultra-protectionist, pro-syndicalist, and guerilla like.
Was not the March of Rome a revoltuonary attempt by Blackshirts?
Was not Franco's Blueshirted Flangists a coup by armed thugs?
The ideological enemy or competitor of Communism is Fascism. Capitalism and western democracy are an ememy to you guys but its like fighting more of a concept of economics and the nations policy. Its not the same as fighting a single union of likeminded reactionary collectivists.

I wasn't aware that their were any places on earth that were Communist, do us a favor and point us towards it :)
As far as choosing the US over Cuba, that one is easy: their is more economic opportunity under the bourgeois capitalism of the US than under the state capitalism of Cuba. Quite simple, no?

He didn't say socialism is less efficient than capitalism. He said autarky and isolation are less efficient than an open economy. The idea of "socialism in one country" was long ago dismissed by most on this board.
There may be some hope after all.
I assure you that under capitalism, there is very little hope indeed.
So I guess it was his choice and not the embargo to be "isolated" on principle?
Not to be isolated, but to trade only with other "socialist" countries like USSR, etc. Of course the material conditions of Russia and Cuba demanded that an economic hierarchy between the two develop which did not benefit Cuba.
This doesn't fit in too well with the KKKommie doxy that all Castro's problems are due to the U.S. embargo on Cuba.
What "KKKommie doxy" do you speak of? I'm not even sure the majority of this board even advocates ending the embargo, let alone believes it is the root of Cuba's economic problems. Cuba's problems are myriad, the main one is simply that they did not have an advanced capitalist economy.
Castro isn't isolated - he can trade with China, Russia, Europe, Southeast Asia and anyone else he wants.
As stated before, Cuba's problems are not really "isolation".
LMAO! Oh that brave Sean Hannity, what WONT he do to save the world from evil? Yes there are many people who want to leave Cuba, its a poor country, people always want to leave poor countries (although your assertion that ALL Cuban doctors want to leave is laughable). Cuban citizens are more "protected" in the sense that they do not have to face the whims of corporations, bosses, etc.
Ah yes, that old "laughing stock" of Marxism. Ah yes, that old antiquated view of the world, a relic of the past really? Its very fascinating though that nearly 150 years after Capital was written, this "laughing stock" that "90% of people have rejected" is still looked to for guidance by the masses who see the failures of capitalism. I'm sure thats why there are 1 million students on the streets of France, and the workers are close to declaring a general strike. Im sure thats why it is highly likely that Maoist guerillas in Nepal are close to overthrowing the government. I'm sure thats why despite the numerous failures you have elucidated, people around the world are still risking their life and limbs for Marxism :-P.
So why was the U.S. the only place people ultimately wanted to migrate to in large numbers before the modern global economy took shape? What were all the circa 1900 migrants through Ellis Island fleeing from in Europe? Gimme your best guess.
I don't have to give you my "best guess". Why were they migrating to the United States? Because it offered the most economic opportunity! It was in the process of industrializing and harnessing the massive amounts of natural resources within it, which provided MASSIVE amounts of job opportunities. Job opportunities that were not as readily available in the already-industrialized countries of Britain, Germany etc. nor in the reactionary, conservative still-feudal/agricultural states of Southern Europe. Back in 1900 the United States was very progressive! Job security, more workers rights than in Europe, more jobs, more liberalism, no kings, no pope... a nascent workers movement that was not as oppressed as those in Europe :). My question is: whats the point of this question? what did you prove? That economic opportunies guide people's decisions? Newsbreak: Marx already wrote about that 100+ years ago. That the US was more attractive than Europe in 1900? Wow, thanks for elucidating me on something so OBVIOUS. Next stupid pet trick: I bet this guy will try to use the fact that the US has so many immigrants as PROOF that SOMEHOW Communism doesn't work or something like that. Many of us here do watch Fox News and CNN and the ilk to check out what the mainstream media is talking about. My advice to you, would be to READ and think about things on your own. If you see faults with Communist economics, or materialism, or what Marx actually wrote about, then come back and debate us, instead of being the 1 billionth person to rehash some right-wing talking points by saying "CUba is p00r, therefour communisM DOESNT WORK!!!1111 didnt u hear about how Sean Hannity had to save some cuban docs by helicoptering into cUba and single-handedly destroying Caztro and cuBa armed only with a missile bike and some American no-how!1"

Peasants from Central America and Mexico are generally heading to major urban areas because this is where jobs are. Many people are immigrating to cities in Mexico from rural areas in Mexico and Central America. MAny people are also immigrating to the US for the same reasons... it has become impossible in many rural areas to sustain farms and so people have to look outside thoes areas for work. Often one family member heads to a city and then sends money back to the rest of the family to help with the farm.
Most here don't consider Cuba to be socialist (workers don't have power, it's a dictatorship, and there is inequality for blacks), so I don't know what you are trying to proove with this.
Why are Latin AMerican countries choosing capitalism? I don't know how you can write this with a straight face... I know how you can, you're not that well versed in Latin American History.
A better way to put the question is this: Why does the US support/install capitalist dictators everythime people in Latin America choose socialism. Neo-liberalist policies in Latin America are about as popular amoung people as Vichy politicians were in France in 1947. Hence presidents resigning in Argentina, Chavez being elected, Evo Morales and MAS (Movement toward Socialism) being elected, and so on. I'd say people are moving away from capitalism in Latin America... that is until the US instals another Pinochette.

Back on the original point - Che Guevara and the whole Soviet era-nostalgia thing has become big business. 'Soviet' and 'CCCP' are actually brand names in parts of this country. I don't think that a few ultra-right loonies are going to be able to appropriate something that trendy town folk will wear to clubs, do you ?
I mean, when you can buy Soviet-brand shower gel, that isn't a KGB conspiracy from the bad old days, you know the world is finally able to laugh at the past. Or at least sell it to people that don't understand.
Gravedigger, you have the point; economic migrants will bypass countries similar to their own, or just generally more restrictive on who they let in, in order to get work easier. It's also true about one family member moving to another country to work, favourable exchange rates supporting the family back home - Immigrants from Asia and India do it in the UK all the time, open a business, and send the money home.

I'd like more information about this, if you can - not to discount your ideas, I'm just curious abou tthe situation in cuba.
not that many anti-cuban sites cite reliable sources, so we need to be cautious about the information we get on socialist or pseudo-socialist nations.
