Five big companies are juggling the reconstruction of Iraq contract with the US; Halliburton, a huge company who already is a contractor for the US Goverment since WWII, Bechtel, an even bigger company, Louis Berger Group, Fluor and Parsons Corporation.

The sum of the ptofits for all this companies (less Louis Berger whos profits are not public) is US$ 40 thousand millions. Which is 2/3 of the anual income of Chile.

All this companies are Americans, for which i cant help but feel esceptic. All of them have experience in other belic cleanups, como Afganistan (Louis Berger) and Bosnis & Kosovo (Parsons), Halliburton builded the instalations in Guantamo, Cuba for the taliban prisioners, and Bechtel tooke care of Chernobyl on the 80's

On the other side there are influences behind all of them, like Vicepresident Dick Cheney worked for Halliburton, and before been secretary of work, Elaine Chao was the president of Parsons.

Just to note: Cheney still collects compensation from Halliburton of up to 1 million a year.

The article I posted about Halliburton further details how they in particular have set up tent cities in Iraq replete with Burger Kings and Starbucks and racket ball courts, and are giving strategic military advice. Talk about profiteering ambulance chasers --- what slimey lowlifes.

I am a huge advocate of public officials giving up all private business interests as it poses a huge conflict of interest in their performing their jobs ethically.
