Another Cuban aircraft hijacked and taken to the United States
• An opportunity for the U.S. government to rectify serious
and absurd errors, island’s authorities affirm
THE lamentable hijacking on March 19 of a DC-3 aircraft belonging to the Aerotaxi company, which endangered the lives of a number of innocent people, could serve as an opportunity for the U.S. government to rectify serious and absurd errors, affirms an official statement published March 21 in the national press.
The text states that none of the passengers have been returned to Cuba, nor have the airplane, its crew, or the hijackers.
Similarly, Havana has not received any details as to how the event occurred aboard an aircraft with barely enough fuel to reach Key West.
The only fact that is known is that the U.S. authorities, embarrassed by such an episode in the midst of a war unleashed in the name of terrorism, are trying to buy time in order to find a formula to cover up the shameless tolerance of and privileges conceded to those responsible for crimes as serious as person trafficking in virtue of the Cuban Adjustment Act.
