Well, I've been thinking of seeing Jarhead, but I don't know if it's an honest representation of kids in uniform.

Don't expect much in the way of politics. From what I've heard, Jarhead about some young men fooling around and overdosing on testosterone in the first Gulf War.

I saw it in Theatres. Oddly enough they were able to save the movie from the evil hands of producers. Im sure the movie is far from a perfect example of showing the life of a recruit but it does a much better job then most hollywood films. Also their are some absalutely amazing scenes in it which show that this isnt another petty movie to make war look like all fun and games. Its not the best war film (far from it) but its decent and worth spending a couple hours watching.

*My boss speaking with a former Jarhead (and friend) that was in the gulf war*

"What did you do in the Gulf War?"

"Same thing I did in the states, drank beer and sat around, only... in the heat... then the cold."

Jarhead shows the true military, most of the time its boring as hell and, not many people get to fight. Its a good movie that doesn't give u shoot um hero BS.

I thought Jarheard did a very good job on story telling, I saw it with two friends and they were just pissed because there was little action. However, from a story sense it was fantastic.

It was sticking to what actually happened, and not too testosterone-filled after my taste! What suprised me was that the main character didn't shoot anyone! Just when you thought the movie would hit its climax it just slid off, and on to the conclusionary scenes. I thought it was funny with the guy that but ablaze the fireworks though..

I got bored about after an hour
but in the end i was glad i watched it

to sum up

if you have about 2 hours that you dont know what to do, go rent the movie and watch it. Its good to watch but unless your a die hard war movie fan, i would not recommend buying it.

I enjoyed it, i thought it was amuzing and had an interesting message.

Those of you who go expecting to see gore, action, etc, then you are in for a disappointment. The Idea of the film is to show what life was like in the Marine Corps from the point of view of one soldier. It does not glorify army life or detract from it, that is ot the point of the film.

The story is basically how a guy goes to the gulf and never once has to fire his weapon in anger. The anticipation and build up of expectations which eventually lead to nothing. It also has interesting touches, like the board of girlfriends and wives who cheated on their other halves while they were away.

Those who were bored or thought it was a crap war movie obviouslly didn't get it.

There was a story that Marine Corps recruiters were taking potential recruits to see this movie...because it's what war "is really like".

It doesn't really have much of a message, but I think it does a decent job of telling the story of the guy who went off to war. (I also enjoyed Nirvana and Public Enemy being on the soundtrack :) )

Don't really remember; possibly the Los Angeles Times. It was a long story recounting the difficulties that recruiters for the armed forces face now...and the idea seemed to be that young people who saw Jarhead might be more likely to sign up. :o

Why did they make another movie about the firsr gulf war? It was the most uneventful war ever. All the US Marines did was pop of a couple of rounds and the war was over, sounds like a great premise for a 2 hour long movie.

Sounds like a great film, why not make a film about how they're being shot and blown to hell everyday in Iraq, see how that goes over in the US.

Its very revelvent, I'm not sure what our point is.

What I'm asking is how soes the fact that you'd like to see a film about Iraq today have any relevance to a discussion of a film on the Gulf War? Have you seen this film and wish to comment on it or is it a matter of *****ing about the US?

Guerrilla22
20th April 2006, 13:54
My point is, that it was dumb to make a movie about the first gulf war, which was entirely uneventful, a film about the current conflict would have generated much more interest, I'm sorry if I offended you, I didn't know you loved films that paint the US military out to be great heros. I'm sure you have blackhawk down and saving private ryan on dvd at home.

ComradeOm
20th April 2006, 14:04
Have you actually watched this film? Have you any comments that relate to the film at all?

Now I’m sorry if there are less films out that you’d like to see but HEY I don’t decide which films get made. But don’t let that get in your way. Perhaps you should visit the Animal Farm thread and whine that Orwell didn’t write the book that you wanted to read

Guerrilla22
20th April 2006, 14:08
I'm sorry, I didn't know I was required to have seen the film in order to post. What's your problem anyhow? you just started attacking me out of no where? Where you not loved enough as a child or something?

ComradeOm
20th April 2006, 14:18
No I wasn't loved as a child. Which is why I'm reduced to trawling internet forums picking out people who don't a fucking clue what they're talking about.

come on man i think he did get the point and im gona have to agree, it was a rather long movie.
im fully awere that it is designed to make u realise how god damn bring it must have been but i think it is perfectly justafied to say dont pay more than the 3 bucks to rent it out rather than see it in the movies.
