View Full Version : Stalin & Lenin
Has there ever been a "TRUE" communist society?
Are Stalin and Lenin's ideas actually good?
Its a proven fact that Stalin killed more people in WWII than Hitler.
Im not saying hes a fascist, im saying a true communist probably wouldnt have done that.
Wasnt Stalins Idea more of a dictatorship? (I know there can be a dictatorship of the proletariat, but from what i have heard, he didnt care much of the people.)

No. (there are many threads on this in learning with more detailed explanations, but simplest definition is that commnism is a society without property, state and classes)

For discussions on Leninism see threads in theory forum.
I hope you will find a lot of helpful information there.

That's for you to decide. www.marxists.org has Lenin's and Stalin's writings.

A dictatorship of the proletariat means the proletariat rule, not that there is a dictatorship to rule them. The term dictatorship of the proletariat has more to do with dictatorship as in power of ruling.

Not yet, but I've got my fingers crossed.

Yes, it's up to you to decide if you agree with them... however, one point that cannot be made loudly enough is that there is virtually no similarity whatsoever between the ideas of Lenin and those of Stalin. They are two completely seperate political tendancies. Stalin, upon seizing power, basically created a huge machine of propaganda and lies which spread the concept that Marx, Lenin, and Stalin shared a common thread, where Trotsky was counter-revolutionary and non-marxist. The truth is that Marx, Lenin, and Trotsky used the same methods, whereas Stalin played a counter-revolutionary role and lead the party in the interests of the beuraucracy. Stalinism and Marxism (or Leninism if you will) have nothing in common.
This link is to an online version of a short book written in reply to an English Stalinist who in the 1960s wrote an article attacking Trotsky and repeating all of the typical Stalinist lies. It's purpose is to truely assess the positions of Stalin, Lenin, and Trotsky, and it is a terriffic resource for someone with the questions you ask.

BTW, there is a huge difference between a "dictatorship" in the modern sense of the word, which Stalin certainly fits (that is, one man or a small group controlling a government), and the dictatorship of the proletariat, which is a dictatorship of a class. The dictatorship of the proletariat is actually a far more democratic system of government then anything which exists in the modern world.
Again, Stalin tried to paint the picture that he was carrying on the traditions of Lenin by saying that the Soviet government was still a dictatorship of the proletariat, but that was a lie.
