Anyone seen it?

I didn't notice it the first time, but when my sister watched it the other day, I heard this:

(Princess Atta)
You see Hopper, Nature has a certain order. The ants pick the food, the ants eat the food, and the grasshoppers leave.

Sounds familiar to me....

Yes I saw it and when I heard those lines I was thinking pretty much the same way you are now. However it is not a socialist or communist film. It was made by Walt Disney one of the biggest companies in the world.

Well, well.

The idea of a "socialist-" or "communist film" sounds pretty strange to me.

If there are connotations with revolutionary philosophies in that movie, so there is.

Gotta love that film, one of the earliest CGFX films. I think its a great film, although I got it confused with Antz for a while, which is a rather different film. Still, yeah I like the rise-up-against-your-(Mexican)-oppressors in it, a nice message for the kiddies :D

This film rocks

[a leaf falls infront of one of the worker ants in the food line]
Worker Ant #1: Oh no. I'm lost. Where's the line? What do I do?
Worker Ant #2: Help.
Worker Ant #3: We'll be stuck forever.
Mr. Soil: Do not panic, do not panic. We are trained professionals. Now, stay calm. We are going around the leaf.
Worker Ant #1: Around the leaf. I-I-I don't think we can do that.
Mr. Soil: Oh, nonsense. This is nothing compared to the twig of '93.

Well that certainly cracked me up.

The movie Antz is a much better film.

It deals with slightly more complex themes, including conformity and war, and its imagery is less colorful and more realistic—for example, the ants' coloration is orange-brown rather than bright blue and the ants in Antz have six extremities (four legs and two arms) rather than four.

The movie is definitely (albeit, unintiontally) about class struggle.

Stop trying to be contrary, Antz has nothing on Bug's Life

Rubbish. Antz is a much better film, both in terms of story and in the quality of the animation.

A Bugs Life is a dumb kids movie full of bourgeois shit. Antz is a great film. I suggest you watch it.

I've seen both, preferred the 'dumb kids movie'. Maybe because of lines like these:

P.T. Flea: [singing] I'm gonna be rich, rich, rich I'm gonna be rich, rich, rich I'm gonna be the richest flea in the land, ka-ching! The streets will be paved with golden retrievers...

Heimlich: I am flying! And from way up here you all look like little ants!

Fly: I have only twenty-four hours to live, and I ain't gonna waste it here.

[two mosquitoes fly near a bug zapper; one flies towards it, as if in a trance]
Mosquito #1: Larry, no! Don't look at the light!
Mosquito #2: [etranced] I-can't-help-it. It's-so-beautiful.
[Larry gets zapped, falls]
Mosquito #2: Woo hoo!

Mosquito: Hey, bartender! Bloody Mary, O-positive.

I guess I can see the class struggle ideals in it.

I think it is interesting to note that many many many films seem to tow an almost marxist line.

But, in the case of a Disney movie, its probably very unintentional. But perhaps a good film for the kids.

I never noticed it in A Bug's Life, but Antz is better.

And Antz does seem to have some intentional elements of class struggle. I vaguely remember the line: "the workers (referring to worker ants) are taking control of the means of production!" or something along those lines.

So, oh-hellz-yes, Antz is better.

Suck my nads

[Hopper has just drowned three dissenting grasshoppers in a pile of seeds]
Hopper: You let one ant (worker) stand up to us, then they all might stand up! Those puny little ants (workers) outnumber us a hundred to one and if they ever figure that out there goes our way of life ! It's not about food, it's about keeping those ants (workers) in there place. That's why we're going back! Does anybody else wanna stay?
[grasshoppers shocked - all the grasshoppers "rev up" their wings]
Molt: [motioning a fellow grasshopper] He's quite the motivational speaker, isn't he?
Hopper: Let's ride!

Hopper: Let that be a lesson to all you ants! Ideas are very dangerous things! You are mindless, soil-shoving losers, put on this Earth to serve us!
Flick: You're wrong, Hopper. Ants are not meant to serve grasshoppers. I've seen these ants do great things, and year after year they somehow manage to pick enough food for themselves and you. So who is the weaker species? Ants don't serve grasshoppers! It's you who need us! We are a lot stronger than you say we are... And you know it, don't you?

Marxism has iniltrated Disney, people - the Revolution has arrived :hammer:

I want to see this film again... but it's so obscure, it's unlikely I'll find a working torrent for it. :(
