In my opinion, the stereotyped God-figure (Long white beard, Tall, Sandals etc!!) is very westernised. Why do we refer to him as male, not female or even of no gender?? Even before the bible was written (or transcribed etc) there are stories and anecdotes of god which involve this stereotype. Do you think we would have a different psychological approach to viewing god if he was a woman or if he was of a specific race?

Think of the sort of people who would become high preists, archbishops etc. Old guys with beards wearing robes.
Seem familiar?

He has appeared to me. When I woke up one early spring morning, I gazed out the window, and there; Over the clouds it was. BEHOLD, He said, "O Behold, pityfull human being."
I could feel His warmth reach into my heart, I bowed down and agreed to forever hold His name dear. "Thy shalt not fear" He said. "For I am the Flying Spaghetti Monster".

(I'm answering directly, for ease of reading, I'm not a Christian)
The christian God is male, that's how He was created. Ancient religions had Godesses, and Gods, the christian God is thus male. Gods don't tend to be created with racial characteristics in mind, but being as He was originally Jewish God, go with that kind of look.

People have found sexism in various religions in far less vague ways. If you're going to apply modern liberalist morals to an ancient text, at least do it well.

Mankind was created in His image, thus presume that he is of Human form, and like I said before, possibly Arab looking, with a hint of Jew.
Question though - How do you de-mystify the metaphysical, I always though that that was the whole point ?

Not that I care much, but I do believe that Mankind was created not with physical alikeness to God. Rather with the same analytical and self conscious mind, and ability to create. According to the Bible.
