Right I created this poll because, well no offense but other polls kept being cocked up or overly-specialized. I bet this blows up in my face...
I've included what I would think of as a prime example of the genre, you choose what suits your tastes. Thanks
Ask any questions I'll respond but I'll just give a brief on some of the more troublesome bands...
Ska Punk (Leftover Crack etc) I think should go in Punk unless heavily Ska, like for example Operation Ivy.
"Experimental" bands could include the likes of Mars Volta as well if you see them as being so far out or just alternative rock, whatever your opinion is.
Progressive means progressive of any genre - Prog Metal (Opeth), Prog Rock (Pink Floyd), Prog-Punk even  (X...?)
This entire thing is so anal, oh well for the sake of perfection let's just do it

... Why is Electronic the only genre not to have examples of artists? <_<

You forgot folk-rock, psychedelic, blues, lo-fi, new wave, jazz, fusion, traditional pop, proto-punk (pretty different from punk), british invasion (very distinctive from other classic rock), etc. etc.
making this poll was a bad idea

For electronic you could maybe add Daft Punk and Chicks On Speed - I think DP are electro and COS other techno?

Because they wouldn't all fit on one line (plus I'm not very knowledgable on electronic music  )
You forgot folk-rock
Thats folk or alternative rock
psychedelic
Progressive?
blues
Jazz? :(
lo-fi
1) Who's favourite genre is lo-fi?
2) The hell is lo-fi?
new wave
You mean like Blondie? Umm...altrock perhaps.
Jazz
No I didn't!!!
fusion
Vote for the music it fuses might be an alternative
traditional pop
Like Elvis?
proto-punk
Classic rock or punk itself
british invasion
Be sensible, if I included sub-genres as well we would never get anywhere
etc, etc
There's more?!?!?! Please demonstrate again your immense talent for scrolling down your Itunes 'genre' column
Go on Rasmussen my son
[QUOTE] Instead of wasting your time here, you should all be voting here
I don't want this to be a competition any more than you do but I think it's quite clear my poll has the better choices. Still, yours was started before mine and I'm pretty detested so let's see what happens
UP THE PUNX!
 I think we're winning at the moment mate
why isn't possible to have multiple choices?
That's an excellent question, one which the forum software makers alone could answer
For electronic you could maybe add Daft Punk and Chicks On Speed - I think DP are electro and COS other techno?
Can't change it now and like I said, no space
I like alternative and indie but I like some pop songs and some hard rock and punk bands.
Figure out what your favourite band/song out of all of them is then vote for the genre it is spawned from

Crap, man I totally forgot that...you mean 77 punk right? Bugger, I wish I could change the thingy and put 'classic punk' in next to classic rock. Shitshitshitshit
If you like Clash, The Sex Pistols, Ramones et al you should vote for Classic Rock/ Soul and pretend to to yourself classic rock says classic punk next to it.

I never think its fair to classify one group of music as my fav. It all depends on the situation and my mood etc..as long as it is decent music i dont care. This doesnt mean i like everything, it just means i dont like being restricted to one genre. For every catagory out there, be it rock, jazz, reggae, there are bands i absolutly love, and absolutly hate.

Metal, but that's such a broad genre. I hate ACDC and Metallica. I'm more into Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Norther, Dimmu Borgir, Kataklysm, In Flames etc. - I prefer melodic death metal sort of stuff usually.

I don't get this: -
Mainstream/ Soft Rock (U2/ Coldplay)
Alternative Rock/ Indie/ Grunge (The Pixies/ The Strokes/ Nirvana)
Soft rock has nothing to do with mainstream music. Not to mention that The Strokes and Nirvana are, or should I say were, mainstream.
Where do bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, the Smiths, british Sea Power, etc fit in. they are softrock/indie rock/alternative whatever label you want to use. These catagories overlap loads to be any good.

Why did you group Hardcore/Emo in with Punk?
Mujer Libre
3rd July 2006, 04:43
These threads are always doomed. :P I voted for the hard rock/metal option because that's the genre that I listen to most bands from, well- metal is anyway.
And classic rock isn't a genre! Bands in that classification are prog rock, blues rock, metal etc.
Ricardo
3rd July 2006, 07:35
I voted classic rock because I like a lot of the genres that were around back then, but Mujer Libre is right. If psychedelic music (rock and folk) I would have picked it.

What about good old Mozart and Co?
Classic music suddenly disappeared? :D
