I don't read papers (they've all got a bloody agenda), and rarely watch the TV for the news (same deal, although it's easier to hide it), so where should I get my news from? Currently, this place is the best news-reporting place I've come across thanks to the stirling work of its members.

So where do you guys go for news? I'm interested in both global and UK (mainly UK, since it's of more relevance to me and to those I'll discuss it with). It doesn't have to be leftist as long as its not the Daily Mail or equivalent  Cheers.

I get almost all of my news online. I use http://indymedia.org/ a lot for independant news and http://news.google.com/ for more mainstream news.

Sociialist Appeal, Granma, and Worker's Weekly World for leftist news and Jon Stuart for liberal/humorous news.

I also come across a ton of strange newspapers at protests. There's always several gay-rights newspapers, spanish newspapers (La Voz), and Lyndon LaRouche always has his cronies out with his stupid paper. They always try to convince me to vote for him. They make me mad.

I get most of my news online through bbc and indymedia and i watch DemocracyNow! (http://www.democracynow.org/) also.

Of the three democracynow is the best in my opinion

I like to get the BBC news radio off of the internet(just love the accents). I watch the dailey show international edition for the hummor value of it. I read the Taipei Times and The China Post. Though they can be a little biased, but it's usually pretty good.

I find that the stories news shows report on varies tremendously and wether or not a paper chooses to report something can be a big part of bias. I find that rarrely do you hear someone just outright slant a story but often they are not reported or given minor covarage.

I like IndyMedia but I don't think it's updated as much as it could be. I think that nationally in the US, The Christian Science Monitor is the best as far as not being biased and (usually) not covering "dumb-ass news."

As for news papers I actually prefer to read the papers produced for the bourgeoisie, they are usually more objective than the papers produced for "common people" which are full with ideology procuction. The bosses want to know what is really happening.

Hmmm, that sounds almost perticular. You're sure you're not on the wrong board and the wrong political side? Ye're a bloody liberal, ain't che? Heheh..

Oh, I just flip through the channels... and read whatever newspaper I get my hands on. I'm pretty random on this one - Altough I don't depend on it. I would rather just ask around - Sometimes, you can trust everyday people more than the stylized 'media'! They're eltists, allright ;)

Well I don't own a television and can't afford a license so I can't watch the news, lol.
I study politics so I get most of the news from most of my class chums.

Normally use google news when I'm on my laptop. :)

The Colbert Report
Local News Channels

Sometimes i'll watch CNN or even Fox News just to find out what is going on, I don't listen to their opinions or how they portray things. And sometimes i'll watch the O'Reily Factor because his views are stupid but funny and it gets me angry at the republicans

2 of those are expressly liberal, but provide a useful perspective none the less.

I think that http://www.marxist.com is a pretty good place for news and analysis, in addition to some of the aforementioned sites.

I get my news from: Time magazine, PBS news hour, Sunday telegraph, ABC lateline, todaytonight(prime), Sunday(NBN/nine) but mostly SBS world news.

I don't really use the web for news...

just a thought..

i used to avoid the mainstream media, because it very obviously has a particular political agenda i disagree with. however, i now find it helpful to watch/read mainstream new sources, to figure out what the people are being told to believe. i feel this is a helpful strategy for knowing how to talk to people who have very different politics from me, so i have a sense of where the starting point of discussion will be on particular issues.

still, though, there's some media i don't bother with, because it raises my blood pressure too much (i.e. the sun)

so i tend to read/watch the following:

(on a more regular basis)

cbc
toronto star
indymedia
xtra
now

(when i feel i can stomach more bullshit than usual)

cnn
random american crazy christian news sources on tv
fab

I tend to just check Google News (http://news.google.ca/ or .com if you're a yank, etc) for up to the minute stuff. I'll click links from more reputable sources first of course (indymedia, al jazeera, and others mentioned here).

For indepth analysis, I always goto the In Defense of Marxism website (http://www.marxist.com/). It is truely second to none.

BTW, cheers for the reference to Socialist Appeal (British Section associated with marxist.com) from earlier in this topic.

I watch pretty much anything (except for Faux (Fox) News Network), and I weed out the shit that I need to.
