Totalitarian dictatorships are definitely anti-communist.

In class society, there is always one class excericisng their will over the rest of society. This is what communists call a dictatorship. With capitalism, there is the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie...where the bourgeoisie class exercises its will over society.

After a proletariat revolution, there would be a dictatorship of the proletariat, in which the proletariat class democratically exercises its will over society. To paraphrase Leon Trotsky, when the proletariat class has established its dictatorship over society, it will not tolerate a dictator over itself.

The only "dictatorship" with socialism is the dictatorship of the proletariat, the democratic rule of the masses.

To further answer your question, there is a distinction between socialism and communism. Within socialism, there is still a state and the remainder of a class system. The goal of socialism is to eliminate the class system, abolish private property and eventually have the state wither away.

Once these processes are complete, there is communism - a stateless and classless society.
