The war in Iraq has begun.......with world wide telecomunications information is quickly moved around the world. The media now has an opportunity to tell the truth...they have the skills to let the population of the world know whats going on. not to be a propagandist machine for the allies. if the media of the world can produce unhindered reports on the war the world will asses the actions of the allies properly and of iraq. I know the media is controlled by corparations around the world and reporting is restricted by the powers that be, but if they can free the shackles of power and perform the art of journalism in the way its supposed to be. we will get the real picture.

In this diverse and international community that we express our views in, what has the coverage of the war been like and are the opinions of the media in your country reflective of the population in your country?

The radio station I have adopted since I forgot CBC's frequency is showing ALL sides. They have speeches from Americans, Anti-Americans, Anti-Zionists, but mostly objective. Our Prime Minister has been, so our media will be.

The "embedded" journalists, while entertaining aren't really reliable. This is where most of the news has been coming from that I've seen. Mostly propaganda and spouting of the party line.
There has been a really good military analyst on BBC world service. He seems to take a balanced look and isn't pro coalition.
The Umm Qasr battle is a clear demonstartion, it's republican guards when they talk to people in the field, then it's infantry men when they're in the studio.

The first journalist casualty of the war has occuered.....Terry Lloyd of ITV has been killed. This is the risk and consequences the world must face and this war will not be as swift as they want it to be.

I heard Terry Lloyd had dissapeared, is he definitely dead?

The media in Ireland are quite good in my opinion. We get a good report and get to see viewpoints from both sides - last night that idiot, Richard Perleman was on TV spouting utter crap.

Most of the media is representing an anti-war viewpoint.

Yeah, I haven't seen any of them in action, but the whole idea of "embedded" journalists leads extremely subjective reporting. By being ensconced in that atmosphere, it's only a matter of time before you would take on the attitude of "us" and "them".

It's also quite likely that they ones who were picked would be pro-war anyway - they're not going to throw John Pilger in with a bunch of marines.

The General in charge of the media HQ in Qatar has just been announcing a briefing and when asked about journalist injuries or fatalities, he replied "i havent heard of any". These are the people cntrolling the world they should process every ounce of info and know what is going on.......

I am not sure if you can speak french, but most of trhe french broadcasts are VERY good. They are in Iraq but dont seem to be using footage from CNN, and it seems like since it is not in English, the US does not control what is shown. It has proved to be a unique source, that i have enjoyed. (or maybe i just don't understand french enough so i can make my own news for the pictures i am seeing either way =P)

(Oh Canada... gotta love bilingualism...Eh!)

Oh Oh... i almost forgot...
Did you hear abuot the Media company who supported George Bush's campaign. They own a majority of all radio stations in the US with stations in 50 states. They are now funding pro-America marches. I thought that that was repulsive. and as i read in an article, "Border line manufacturing the news". Anyhoo just another look at where we are forced to get our info.

And one big thank-you to all those eho spoke out against war at the oscars, i thought that was a big statement. (Michal Moore's speech was fantastic)!

Mcrob, you are absolutely right about the french news. Luckily, the local community college in my town plays international news, so i get to see french, german, abu dhabi, pakistani, russian, spanish and countless other foreign news programs every day. Watching these programs makes you really understand how incredibly censored the american news media is. Im also getting tired of cnn journalists saying they cant show certain clips because of security reasons. Its getting harder and harder to know the truth, and knowledge is power. They are trying to brainwash us into their beliefs by a sever whitewashing campaign. What ever happened to freedom of the press?

McRob, the media company you are talking about is Clear Channel Communications. It seems that they own everything. I dont bother listening to the radio or anything around here just because it is all the same crap and owned by the same people.

Senora Che--- Yes, avoid Clear Channel and all those massive massive ownerships. Can't trust them for shit in this country (USA).

As in most times like these, it will be when all is said and done--- when we hear the truth told by the people suffering right now. The ones that get out alive.
