That is close to what Jean said, but Canadian politics rarely brings religion in. He said "hope"

Thanks CrazyPate but responding......I have not been able to see the news at all ....busy at work.

Religion or not....we need PEACE

We do need peace. I have read that the people of Egypt are calling for Iraqis troops to enter cities and make new stalingrads (something to taht effect) so that the American's can revolt in their own country.

Inocente

REVOLT....not

It would not happen.

And if not mistaken when the phrace of "make a new Stalingrad" is use, I beleive it refers to the Soviets destroying the city when the Germans attacked.

I not too possitive on that one.

PAZ

The phrase was not used. But it was the only allusion that came to me. The people of Egypt want the battles to be in the city, so that man yamericans die basically. it is saddening.

Pax Christi USA Nationwide Civil Disobedience Call

Pax Christi USA Calls for Nationwide Actions of Civil Disobedience; Vatican Labels Bush War "a Crime against Peace"

"The president's war is a clear offense to people of faith everywhere" says national coordinator

Erie, Penn. - Responding to what the Vatican last night labeled "a crime against peace," the largest Catholic peace organization in the United States immediately called on its members and people of faith throughout the world to undertake a massive campaign of nonviolent civil disobedience. Pax Christi USA (www.paxchristiusa.org) joined with hundreds of organizations worldwide in pledging to resist and renounce a war against Iraq by committing acts of civil disobedience at U.S. federal buildings, military installations and transnational corporations. Pax Christi USA is a member of several coalitions working to avert a war against Iraq, including United for Peace, Win Without War, and the Iraq Pledge of Resistance.

"We must not despair. We must not surrender our efforts to the inevitable war mentality that will surely arise in the coming hours and days," stated Dave Robinson, national coordinator of Pax Christi USA.

Thousands of Pax Christi USA members who had earlier signed a pledge of resistance should war with Iraq become imminent, were contacted by Robinson in an e-mail circulated in the wake of President Bush's televised speech to the nation Monday night. Robinson encouraged groups and individuals to enact scenarios they have been planning for months. "We must remain strong in our resolve, committed in our actions, and prophetic in our words and deeds," he stated.

Nationally, U.S. religious leaders will gather together for a witness in Washington DC on Wednesday, March 26. Numerous religious leaders are expected to commit nonviolent civil disobedience to voice their protest of a
war that has been labeled unjust and immoral by nearly ever religious body in the world. This action coincides with the arrival of the entire of leadership of Pax Christi USA in Washington DC for an already planned leadership summit.

Robinson noted that "the president's war is a clear offense to people of faith everywhere" and that several members of the Pax Christi USA National Council have already committed to participating in the religious leaders witness set for March 26. Eric LeCompte, the chair of the Pax Christi USA National Council, extended an invitation to Catholic leaders to join the Washington witness.

"It is clear that the policies of the Bush administration are in complete disagreement with the official pronouncements of the Catholic Church. The policies of this administration stand in stark contrast to the values we hold as Catholics," said LeCompte. "Neither Jesus nor our consciences will allow us to stand idly by while this administration murders thousands of innocent people in Iraq."

We need to not only pray but take upon a "cross" and create change.

Yes, staring at the sky and mumpeling words isn't going to help.

Instead, you could better take real action.

praying will not solve a goddamn thing....humans must take action against evil....

I agree with the communist threat. People need to take action, praying will not help. Like Marx said, religion is the opiate of the people. People turn to religion to forget about the bad. By forgetting change cannot happen.

I used to hate religion. I'm an atheist, but I've seen religions of all kinds have brought some stupid sense of hope that reassured people in moments of deep sorrow.

I also believe only men and no "Gods" change the world. But then again, I have learnt to respect other people beliefs to the extent I want them to respect mine.

Some may be surprised to hear me say it, but let those who think the war can be successfully opposed by prayer go ahead and give it a try.

Perhaps when they see for themselves what an utterly hopeless method they have chosen, they will turn to more effective, earthly techniques.

I confess I would be very surprised to see Yahveh/Allah shine forth from the heavens and sweep U.S. bombers and missles from the skies over Iraq...sort of like we might apply a broom to a hornet's nest.

But those who pray for peace do no harm at the moment...so let them pray in peace.

Peace is what all of us truly wish for our world and lives. But definitely this war is the wrong path to peace. It's not going to stop terrorism, it's only going to heat it up, who benefits? The traders of weapons.

As the Shienarians say in the Wheel of Time books, they are a people that fight wars nonestop because of their enemies, "Peace bless your sword."

surely it would be better to just get removing saddam over with? im against the war, but to pull out now would be unacceptable. we would have given iraqi's in some parts a taste of what it could be like without saddam(albeit with american rule) and then taken it away again. we would have destroyed large parts of the city of baghdad, for no reason.

ok um this is a dumb anaology, but its the best way i can think to explain it. say theres a cave, and in it a man, hiding on a ledge. and below him is a vicious pack of tigers. so in comes a slave catcher, who sees the man. he attacks some of the tigers, making them angry. then halfway through he changes his mind and runs off.
he has only further crushed the mans spirits, and angered the tigers more.

i dont hope for the american forces to suddenly change their minds and withdraw from iraq, but that they suceed as quickly as possible.

Awe, Redstar does have a heart!!! ;)

Inocente--- you are right. Peace is the end result no matter whether we pray for it or not.

I say pray, and then get out there and live our truth---without killing and maiming to do it.

completely right. fuck all this anti-war, anti-bush crap. The war has begun. It will not stop untill the aim is achieved. We must hope that god will protect as many Iraqi's as possible.
