Today had been a surprisingly interesting day for reading the Construction News, I've found two articles of interest that I've re-posted here - usually I might find one article of some interest about a big project.

Anyway....

Baptist University of the Americas (BUA) will soon break ground on a new apartment-styled student housing community at the school's South San Antonio campus.

Thanks to a $1 million gift and a $2.5 million interest free loan from the Christ Is Our Salvation Foundation -- BUA administrators expect to begin construction in late spring with the first phase of the project slated for completion in time for the fall 2007 semester.

The student-housing community will be named Piper Village in honor of the Paul and Katy Piper family -- which established the Christ Is Our Salvation Foundation and are benefactors of the school.

Piper Village will provide two- and three-bedroom apartments and support facilities to accommodate up to 48 families and 64 single students.

"We just believe so strongly in the vision of President Albert Reyes for training cross-cultural Christian leaders," says Katy Piper, wife of the late Paul Piper Sr. "Since our family has been involved with scholarship programs for Hispanic ministry students over the last several years, we have been impressed with the dynamic leadership and dedicated students at the university."

Because the school has outgrown its current South Side campus -- drawing in students from throughout America and more than 15 Latin and South American countries -- there is a need for more housing to accommodate these students.

The Piper gift will be matched with funds from a $3 million matching gift fund established last year from philanthropists John and Eula Mae Baugh.

"These two historic gifts provide us with enormous capital fuel to accelerate our vision for building a new campus that will become a globally recognized center for Hispanic theological education at all levels," Reyes says.

Baptist University of the Americas is in the process of developing a new 75-acre campus located along Interstate 35 across from its existing campus.
