View Full Version : Anti-Semitism?

Hello comrades.
Forgive the ignorant question, but I was wondering why bashing of Judaism is always heavily punished, however it seems that the Religion forum is a Christianity bash-athon. We are (mostly) anti-religious, so why do people making slanderous comments against Christians go unpunished (not that they should be punished) while people aren't allowed to say anything is wrong with the Jewish faith without being restricted? Let me state that I am not some goosestepping Jew-hater, but I just don't see why we're so sympathetic to their religion, when we're meant to be fighting dumbass faiths that state that the way the world is is "God's way."
Could someone explain this to me?
Many regards

Because Jews are often treated as 'special'.
Anti-Scemitism originally meant racism directed against racial Jews, regardless of whether or not they were practicing Jews. However now it has been expanded to also include any criticism of Israel, Zionism etc.

You are totally free to tear the religion of Judaism to shreds, just as you are with Christianity and Islam.
You can also comment upon reactionary elements that may exist within "Jewish Culture."
You may not extend your critisisms to the Jewish people as a whole, meaning them as what some would call "race," nor may you advocate the persecution of "the Jews."
The word "Jew" means something over and above those that belong to the Jewish faith, Karl Marx for example was an atheistic Jew.

Who was restricted for that? Few people bother to bash the Jewish religion....far more promote the idea that Jews are behind some vast and powerful conspiracy. That idea is part of fascist ideology, and fascism is not permitted on this board.
But I suppose your argument that anti-Semitism is OK because we're supposed to be anti-religious does illustrate a contradiction of some of the board's anti-religious fanatics.
See this thread on religious persecution for why communist should oppose the persecution of all religious groups, not just Jews. (http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=46523)
Here, I'll demonstrate that bashing the Jewish religion is not grounds for restriction.
The Torah/Old Testament story of the battle of Jericho glorifies mass murder. It describes the whole town being massacred at God's command. This illustrates the depraved character of that religion.
Betcha nobody seriously even proposed to restrict me for that.

Thank you comrades.
When you say a Jewish "race", do you mean in the same way many US Americans are Christined and would class themselves as Christians but don't go to church or read the Bible etc?
That idea is part of fascist ideology, and fascism is not permitted on this board.
True, Nazis may claim that. However, Hitler invented gun control. Does that make everyone who agrees with it a Nazi? Stalin was a Leninist. Does that mean every Leninist promotes slaughter of all opposition? No.
Note: I don't actually support this conspiracy theory. (Hell, I don't know anything about it.) Just playing the Devil's advocate.

People who call themselves Christian, but don't read the bible, are just people who see the world as it really is. They have learnt Evolution, they have conceptualized General Realitivity, and understand to a reasonable level how the world works. They see no reason for God, and no reason to believe in it. However they have been raised that way, and feel comfortable that way.
I have had many interactions with people from everywhere in America (Northwest, Deep South, Eastern Cascades, Midwest, North Midwest... all of what I have found points to the above conclusion.) It all seems to be a general theme of sheep being hurded.

Remember workersunity? He was restricted for some (nonsense) statement that Israël "ruled the world" or something... In my opinion, critisizing Israël does not mean critisizing jews, or anti-semitism.

Uhhh...not true...gun control laws were around in Weimar times to try to control street fighting between the Communists and Freikorps...

racial Jews
For the at least 10th times I'm repeating this on RevLeft, and I'm getting pretty sick of it, it's just sad to tell that a "leftist" over and over again: There is no "Jewish race". The concept of a Jewish race is plain Nazi ideology.
There is a Jewish culture however, which by far isn't reduced to the religous elements. The most significant attribute probaply is that there is an Jewish language. Most Jewish born atheists still consider themself to be Jewish.

Of course not.
Zionists will often cry "anti-semitism" when debating a person who rightly criticises Israeli policy towards Palestinians.

Free Palestine was restricted for perceived anti-Semitism.
