An amazing article by Penn Jillette.. heres an extract, please, read all of it, it's not exceptionally long. Tell me what you lot think.

"believe that there is no God. I'm beyond atheism. Atheism is not believing in God. Not believing in God is easy -- you can't prove a negative, so there's no work to do. You can't prove that there isn't an elephant inside the trunk of my car. You sure? How about now? Maybe he was just hiding before. Check again. Did I mention that my personal heartfelt definition of the word "elephant" includes mystery, order, goodness, love and a spare tire?

So, anyone with a love for truth outside of herself has to start with no belief in God and then look for evidence of God. She needs to search for some objective evidence of a supernatural power. All the people I write e-mails to often are still stuck at this searching stage. The atheism part is easy.

But, this "This I Believe" thing seems to demand something more personal, some leap of faith that helps one see life's big picture, some rules to live by. So, I'm saying, "This I believe: I believe there is no God."

How original.
It's basicly a text about how he not believing in God gets benefits that people who believes in God doesn't.

I don't like people who simply state they "believe" in God, without any logical reasoning or any attempt at one, either. But this article just seems pretty pointless to me.

I guess it can be nice if you are really into that "kill everyone who believes in God because that means he is so dumb and different from you and can't think of anything else then God and he can't be on your side" kind of thing.

I wouldn't say that there is definately no God. It just seems to me that believing either way is somewhat absurd. I mean, you can search and look and debate it your whole life, but ultimately you still end up with no proof of anything. Personally, I leave it at that and just go on with everything else.

Partly.

But Christianity has this image of being wonderfully moral and friendly, now although we know this, I like Penns personal perspctive on Atheism and morality.

"Believing there's no God stops me from being solipsistic. I can read ideas from all different people from all different cultures. Without God, we can agree on reality, and I can keep learning where I'm wrong. We can all keep adjusting, so we can really communicate"

"I have to try to treat people right the first time around"

It's not the best article ever written on Atheism. I just thought it was worth sharing.

Your agnostic then. Much like me. But until there is proof of God, we must assume there isn't.

Also, certain concepts of 'God', such as Christianity's, Judaism's, and Islam's are impossible, contradictory concepts, that cannot exist.

Oh, I completely agree with you there!
