i came across this book thanks to one of the girls in my dorm. with only 100,000 copies ever printed, it cost her a lot of money. rarity aside, this book is mind-blowing. janis' lover, peggy caserta, is the narrator and tries to discern facts from myth from her relationship with janis. (and for all the curious out there, there are plenty of sex scenes.) janis was always very human to me because i saw a lot of her in me, growing up in a place that doesn't understand you, her close relationship with her father, etc. peggy talks all about her experiences with janis, what other people said or thought about her, and tried to put together bits of janis' history. this look at the 60s music and drug culture coming from a real insider is intense and pretty much outlines janis' inevitable death and despite all the bravado, she was really such a sensitive person, but insecure enough to let herself be exploited, especially by men (grr, die, men, die!). so yeah, there's my little book review. get yer mitts on this and tell me what you think.
