Welcome to RevLeft. I hope you enjoy your stay here, VermontLeft. I once lived in Vermont myself, beautiful place I must say.

Sorry, i forgot about this thread

What are your political stances?

I'm not really sure what id label myself, thats part of why i joined here.

i'm definetly anti-capitalist and i would call myself a communist, but not Lenist cause I dont approve of his policies or many of his ideas ans political managing style.

Untill I figure it out myself, ill just say im a communst (of some sort), not a leninist or stalinist or maoist or whatever, but im not an anarchist either, i dont believe that we can just make communism right away, some sort of transition socialism is need like Marx said.

"withering away" can only happen though if the socialst country has full participation and not just the rule of the Party and the GREAT LEADER.

Sorry to be vague but im still learning you know

Transition as in social reform? Or transition as in social revolution? I kinda sit on the fence with you in the sense that I don't know what sub-click to put myself in...

Ahh well, still learning =).

^You don't have to place yourself into a category or necessarily label yourself, if you don't want to

IMO, its not very smart to label yourself with any specific ideology or belief
Kuz there are many basic beliefs from different branches of socialism, which all socialists should advocate
And there are many beliefs that socialists should reject

Rather, why not label yourself a communist or a socialist, yet at the same time advocate or agree with certain beliefs from each socialist branch

It would be wrong to condemn Leninism or Maoism based on a few beliefs that u don't agree with
Why not take or adopt the Leninist/Maoist beliefs that u agree with, and call yourself a socialist/communist

Personally, Im a socialist
But I agree or have adopted many different beliefs from all the socialist branches

I totally agree with you, Communism carries with it such a needless and moronic stigma these days in the US.

However within smaller groups of a large society I have found it a lot easier to learn, and have a generally better application of knowlege on daily twists and turns of life... but thats just my personal experiances. :D

Remember too that communism isn't a homogenous thing with a centralized body that directs what everybody has to think or what kind of tactics they have to use.

I don't know how it works in the States (http://www.cpusa.org/), but if it's anything like Canada you find a hell of a lot of variety amongst different chapters and individual members. I imagine the YCL (http://www.yclusa.org/) is especially like that.

In the chapter where I joined there were young comrades in RATM shirts sitting around the table with labour activists, anti-poverty activists, former anarchists. There were a bunch of Chilean comrades who worked underground against Pinochet in the seventies. There was even one old comrade who joined the Communist Youth Brigade and fought with the partisans against the Italian fascists in World War II.

His wife wasn't a member, but she used to make us sandwiches for the meetings sometimes.

The point is to pull together, learn from the past and keep moving forward.

All the best!
