Sorry if you already know this info but, I think it's important to let others know.

As you know, Google has been in the news for both censoring and releasing user info. The problem is, that most people feel that they are stuck with Google because it is the best engine available. Let's face it, Yahoo and MSN search engines are shitty and just as bad. There are a few good alternatives though. Probably the best alternative to shitty google that I have found is Previewseek.com. It's a UK based search engine so you don't have to worry about GWB peeking in at your search quarries, or corperations data collecting. Although they do keep an index of searches, they do not link them IPs and individuals. I have compared Google searches to Previewseek's, and they are pretty much identical.

Of course, if you can't give up your need for Google, you can always go to one of the scraper sites, such as Scroogle.org. This is a nice little site that piggy backs off Google but allows you to be anonymous.

The last bit of info I want to pass on is the site http://tor.eff.org. This is a really great idea for everyone who is on this board for it allows you to be nearly completely anonymous durring all internet activites. Basically it routes its users through random other nodes so that the data no longer has a recognizable source or destination. This of course slows down your surfing so I wouldn't really suggest it for your bittorent fun and stuff, but I would suggest you download it on at least one computer so that you can post shit on forums and use on Instant Messeges that you would prefer not to be traced back to you. Another great feature is that it works well with Privoxy (http://www.privoxy.org/) so if you load the two together you have one bad stealthy mamajama conglomerate of anonymousness.

Hopefully, this post will help a tad for those who are worried about their internet security.

oh. and if you are interested in anonymous p2p file sharing. the next generation of bittorent is here with IP spoofing et all. http://rodi.sourceforge.net/

Not that I'd ever advocate file sharing, hell I go to RIAA fund raisers on a weekly basis. Just thought you might like to know what those evil p2p-heads are up to.
