View Full Version : The Dawn of A New Canada

Canada has been a close ally, or colony, of three great powers in its history. France until 1764(?), Britian until 1945 and America until yesterday.

Prime Minister Jean Chretien spoke out in Commons against America's war in Iraq. He denounced the warmonger, and was given a standing ovation by the entire parliment, minus the staunch Rightwing Canadian Alliance who probaly would not disagree with the Annexionist movement.

Today Canada stands on a new platform. Our allies have betrayed the world, and we did not join in. Today Jean Chretien made his legacy that he has been searching for. Today Canada stands with the world against America, Britian, Spain, Portugal, and the others who stand against International law and the United Nations.

I can say I am proud of my country at this moment.

RedCanada's post's are totally mindless. At least explain fuck nationalism.... Im what you could call "ethnistic" when it comes to my heritage. Nationalism on it's own is fine because there is community; when it turns into fascism it becomes wrong.

Krazy, do you understand the Bloc Quebecois? He is stating the feelings of over half of all Canadians and half of Quebeckers

I'm moving to Canada. Sounds like the only rational culture left in North America.

Canada, torn between atleast 4 distinct cultural areas, sown up with a charter of rights that says "you can suspend any for up to 2 years at a time" and lwas that say , 'heres some money now help the people so we stay toghter'.

I'm glad Chretien finally denounced Bush, it's been a few months we've been torn between trying to be peaceful, and trying to ass-kiss, I just gained newfound respect for him.
Besides , block quebecois can't do jack, Chretien will just go Trudeau on their asses :)

The War of Politics is actually what I could call beautifully ugly now. Oxymoron eh?

Hey! All you Canadians! Can you tell me some reasons that I should move to Canada? I am in the US and feel like I need to leave as a matter of general principal. What is their medical system like? Education? Culture? Are people as crazed about materialism there? What is the most cultural and educationally rich place to be in Canada? What is the land like?

I have to get out of the US so my tax money and work will not be going to imperialism. I feel like The Comandante would say it is the least I can do. At least in Canada you speak the same language--- and I wouldn't get shit for going to Cuba if I so desired. Which I do.

Advice, anyone?

I guess that includes me
ok, I'll tell you a bit about us.....

medical system: free freee free.... we have a great healthcare system, actually, I just got my MSI renewed(medical services insurance). Some medications may cost you money, but hospital servises are cost-free, provided you have an MSI card, I'm not sure how it would work for "foreigners" but I can imagine that it would be the same.

education: free free free..... we have relatively high taxes, 15% here on the east coast, but the money goes to our education system, and health system.... I say it's a fair trade off. But university will cost you... :-P

culture: we believe in maintaining, preserving and respecting cultural diversity. Canada's one big ethnic quilt, and we're proud of our many diverse influences.

The people here aren't really has hung-up on materialism as in the US. It's really hard to answer this question, but I'm not materialistic. But the majority of the canadian population (i'd say 60-65%) is liberal or socialist, so it makes for a nice leftist atmosphere :)

The most culturally and educationally rich place? It's hard to say as far as education, it's all pretty much the same in my opinion. But as far as cultural diversity, toronto, vancouver and montreal. But it's harder to be accepted in those cities because most immigrants and refugees tend to go there. so if you're thinking about where youi want to live, it'll be easier for you to find a smaller town or city, but if you want, you can give the big ones a try first.

the land? Well, agriculture is our major economic foundation. we had a drought in the west, but the east coast farmers sent them hundreds of thousands of tons of wheat, so their cattle wouldn't starve, and they wouldn't face harder economic times (see the comraderie there> ). But for the most part, the praries are flat lands(mid-west canada), the west has the rocky mountains (good for skiing, lol) the east coast is, well, just there, but we have a nice moderate climate :)

hope I've been of some help :)

By the way... live in the cities. The countryside, especially in the west - where I come from - is right wing Christian. However, so long as you stick to urban centres you'll meet level headed human beings.

Felicia... you've from Ontario, right? Most Canadians are NOT leftist in the west. It's only those in urban centres like Vancouver (which is a really cool city, but the countryside nearby is scary). Ethinically, the best city is difficult to ascertain. If you are of South-East Asian decent I would say Vancouver, of Indian decent I think Vacnouver, Toronto or Montreal, and of African or black American decent Toronto or Montreal.

Finally, before someone asks me any particulars about my nationality (as I have been posting on British and Canadian threads), I am Canadian by birth, Brithish ethinically (and I am going to university in the UK), and I have lived eight years of my life in Tanzania.

PS. As for the medical and educational services, both are going down the drain in BC - I am orginially from Vancouver - as a right wing government has hold of power. If you are even vaguely considering settling in Vacouver make sure you are living near to the city centre...

I'm from Ontario. A farming region. This is a right wing cess pool.

GO TO OTTAWA!! It has education, culture, leftist corners. It is the tech centre, the political centre, and cultural centre of Canada (culture is well Ontario).
