This is fucking awesome :) Its a strong reminder that many Australians do not want anything to do with this war. If Howard feels that it is Australia's duty to back the US then maybe he should go fight in the front line himself.....

I did mention that the Herald Sun is the dodgiest paper in this country (Australia). Unfortunately it is the only paper that gets delivered to my house so I do read it now and again. Sometimes the opinions that people write in are good but basically the paper is full of bias patriotic shit. I only posited it for the picture.

"I believe this is a dishonourable way of making a protest because it defaces a beautiful piece of our public property"

Well, sometimes you have to take drastical actions so you can be heard!
WELL DONE!!

----> They are facing 5 years of jail?!

It was awesome! I was pissed off when they painted over it.

One of the guys who did it is British, and might be deported.

With our shithouse treatment of refugees, our "white Australia policy" that was only abolished thirty odd years ago, and our refusal to apologise for the Stolen Generation, sometimes its hard to be proud to be Australian. This kind of thing is what restores my faith.

If they get five years jail, Ill still be proud; proud that there are Australians who feel strongly enough to go to jail or to risk jail over what they believe in.

I was at the anti-war protests on March 5, and I hope to go to many more.

Hodgo,

Someone wisely said in another thread people are separate from nations (RedCeltic??)

If being Australian means that I have to condone the countries policies on war, refugees and stolen children then I am not Australian. The whole concept of race is completely ridiculous. You should not feel pride or guilt for being born in a particular country, It is something that you have no control over. Although I do agree that it is extremely refreshing to know that we have comrades in Australia.

I laughed when I heard about it, and am still lauging. It is so funny. we need more people doing things like that to lighten the air.

I see your point Commie. The pride Im talking about isnt really a nationalist pride, though; nationalisms shit, I just meant pride of my heritage and culture, not because its "better" or "worse" than others or anything like that, but because its where I came from and stuff. Theres aspects of it I love, but aspects I hate, such as the nationalistic, ultra-conservative view alot of Aussies take. I agree that pride or shame for something your country does is stupid since theres nothing you can really do about it. But yeah, as you said, its great to see.
