it is a subject that i don't quite understand. Hitler was right wing and was a socialist but then you get the Bloc Quebecqois who are also nationalist but left. So what is it really?

Hitler was a Nazi and a fascist, not a socialist. The Bloc is social democratic.
Nationalism is an ideology that emerged in the 19th century based on creating an identity among people based on a shared common language, shared traditions, and "belonging" to a nation-state of their own.
(Edit: Is that Cape Breton on your flag?)

Yikes! No, he threw "socialist" in there to attract left-wingers. Subsequently, ignorant cappies bring that up all of the time. "Nationalist Socialist" is a contradiction that was merely aimed at getting more votes.
To other comrades on here, don't lambast him as a fascist, I'm sure he simply did not know.

There is nationalism that promotes one nation over another. Then there is nationalism that is national liberation, one nation fighting an oppressed nation.
Many leftist are immature and still can not see the difference between nationalism of the oppressor and nationalism of the liberator. Don't make the same mistake.

Hitler was right wing and was a socialist ...
This question was asked several times in learning and once (if not more times) discussed in Opposing Ideologies.
There was nothing socialist in Nazi ideology or practices. They always had support from the capitalists and they firmly opposed the idea of abolishing capitalism. I think that last time I posted some quotes. By definitions of socialism, abolition of capitalism is goal of all socialists.
