mao and more is this mad store in surry hills in sydney. i'm not a maoist by any means, but there's a lot of mad artefacts and stuff, they're all really expensive though. like a thai riot police helmet is $350 or something, and the most expensive item i saw there was an old acid bath for about 7 grand.

THE MAO AND MORE STORY

The Mao and More empire was originally an odd compulsion in the mind of the Armchairman himself * a globetrotting entrepreneur, collector of curios and would-be table-tennis champion. ³I was gathering ideas and sensations from the four corners of the empire long before I put fountain pen to paper,² he declares with a twitch of his port-wine nose.

³I lived in China. For thirty years I journeyed extensively through India, Africa, and Melbourne * the countries most steeped in richness of texture, scent and colour.

"One day my travels through Melbourne landed me outside the Communist Bookshop * next door to the Krishna Temple. Two juxtaposed images clashed and collided.... And By George! I had my answer.²

³It would be a retail adventure both exotic and eclectic, eccentric and elegant! I would sell artifacts that stimulate the mind and arouse the senses. Curiosities from every corner of the globe! It would REVOLUTIONISE THE WORLD!²

³Starting with Surry Hills.²

The Armchairman is fascinated with the "arty" side of the cult of Chairman Mao. ³He was represented as the definitive people¹s hero * even Andy Warhol said so. He was really the ultimate Chairman, with one exception,² and here the Armchairman smiles modestly.

³Mao and More is, of course, about so much MORE than Mao. Today, you¹ll find me bartering with Arabs and bribing officials on the borders of Morocco * hunting down extraordinary items * each with a story to tell.²

The Armchairman believes in giving back to the communities that produce his goods. ³We merchants have to stick together, what?² he booms.

³And of course, noblesse oblige * it¹s our duty to look after the natives!!!²

³We must also, of course, acknowledge that the twenty first century beckons. So we have employed this arty-farty new fangled computery mob called ³Spring in Alaska² to weave us one of these spiderweb sites that are so in vogue right now

And what exactly is that shirt trying to say?

That is what I wanted to ask.

I see it shows the attack on the Towers and Macdonald's symbol, but I don't see any meaningful message.

i'm not sure, but i think it's just saying "take that USA!"

i think the golden arches are just there as a familiar image - it's a silly attempt at detournement as the mcdonalds thing doesnt actually seem to relate to september 11 at all <_<

Awesome, although I'd probably be accused of being an Islamic Extremist if I wore it.

(Is the green a coincidence?)

How dare McDonald's mock the USSR's colour scheme?

But anyway, yeah, cool t-shirt, but I'm not really a fan of religious fanatics or mass civilian death, so I don't think I'd wear it.

Although you've given me a cool idea - A McDonald's logo with sickles instead of arches. Solidarity - I'm lovin' it!

I think that Macdonalds in Russia really uses (or used?) sickle and hammer in their logo. They place little yellow sickle and hammer above their M.

This sounds very strange and unlikely to me, so can someone please say is it true?

Information I found on their site (link posted above by rioters block):

"267-271 Cleveland Street Surry Hills Sydney

Monday-Friday 10 - 6
Saturday 10 - 6
Sunday 11 - 6

Public holidays please call"

On the pictures the store looks very nice, but it must be really big (for that kind of a shop). Pictures show at least several different rooms.

¿since when do communists justify the killing of 3000 innocent civilians by religious extremists?

I think by showing the logo of American economic imperialism 'causing' the attack, it is alluding to the fact that as we (as Americans) alienate cultures, disempower the masses, and reduce poor nations to economic slavery, we directly cause the backlashes that :P

I agree with gewehr 3 ...bad taste and entirely irrelevant to our cause.

I'm surprised so many of you are so amused.

Its a clever image but not sure I would want to wear it myself. Seems to promote that 9/11 was a good thing. The loss of life and the nasty foreign policy that followed probably not something to be celebrated.
